Attention! No Warning Tone

No Warning Tone popped up my NavScreen. I lose all music and warning sounds/ gongs replaced by constant static lasting for a few seconds to several minutes. Brought it to the dealer and (according to them) they updated the software. But the next day, the problem persisted. Dealer advised me to just bring the car in when the problem comes up again as it is impossible for them on waiting when it pops up. There is no way to duplicate the problem because it comes out randomly. Battery is still good. Any idea what causes it? Suggestions? CIC reset? Thanks guys

This means that there is an issue with the fiber optic MOST loop. Dealer will have to diagnose it to determine which control unit on the loop is causing the problem. The only other potential culprit could be a loose connection on the MOST ring.

Thanks Mike! I actually have the BPM Tune. The car's airbag module was replaced 2 months ago, was wondering if it's the culprit. Actually it happened again but worse the other day, while driving at a busy street the volume went full max by itself and it doesn't respond to the master volume control. Immediately pulled over. Scared the $&&@ out of me. It's back in the dealer. I took another video of the volume going up by itself

Hope you're enjoying the tune.

The airbag module doesn't have MOST so that is likely unrelated. To me, based on the volume going up by itself, it sounds to be that the CIC (navi head unit) is defective. Good luck and keep us updated.

The tune is absolutely fantastic! At first I was afraid they would void the warranty because of the tune, but the service manager didn't mind it. If they replace the CIC would I lose the BPM tune and reinstall it? I'll forward your diagnosis to the service manager. I'll keep you posted. Thanks

Update: attached is a pic of what the dealer claimed they did. I lost the BPM tune after they reset the codes. 2 days later just before reinstalling the BPM tune, the problem was back and constant. Youtube Link shows radio going loud by itself, notice the mute symbol lit yet the music keeps going. Dealer suggest it's possible bec. the suspension EDC were unplugged? I'm like, huh? (Ohlins R/T has been installed way long ago years before the problem came out) hmmmm...

Reading that diagnosis report tells me the dealer is a bunch of goons. This is a problem with the CIC unit, not the combox or amp from what I see on their diagnosis. The only other issue could be the AMP, but it looks like that was already replaced. That first combox that they replaced definitely wasn't defective. Also, why they would check the connections at the USB hub is beyond me, it doesn't even have a MOST connection. Reading that makes me loose faith in BMW technicians, they just press buttons on a computer and don't use their brains to correct a problem w/ a car. Has absolutely nothing to do with EDC as that's not on MOST bus either. It's the CiC or another control unit on the MOST bus.

Thanks Mike! You're right, they must have just check the computer and press buttons. I relied on what the SA told me saying they checked the AMP etc. but apparently it was never replaced. It's back in for the 5th time. Hopefully this time they fix it. CIC was replaced already, at least that's what they wrote on the work order invoice. SA said the FORMAN will have to contact BMW if the problem persist. I must have driven all the list of loaner car they have from going back there. If there's anything good I'm getting out from this case is the mileage and gas I'm saving. Starting to dig the 535 Diesel I have right now 360+ miles and still barely half way to empty LOL

Problem solved (so far). All those time, in and out of the service dept, equipments replaced... the only problem was the USB Iphone charger cable having a short, affecting the whole system. Wow. Lesson learned.

One would assume by replacing the shorted iphone charger cable.
