M3 ESS VT1-550 vs Stock 2014 M5
Would the M3 be able to keep up? I would think yes, but never know...that M5 is quick.

Don't forget the m5's torque and underrated engine. Would be an interesting race but I think the m5 would creep ahead for a win

I've never seen the vt1 kit go up against a stock m5 however I have seen the 625kit and it wasn't even close. The M3 was lengths ahead.
In the video it states Adam's car is vt2 600 however I believe at the time it was a 625 kit?

I think a strong running ESS 550 car will give it a run for its money, but not win.

The M3 with VT1-550 should be faster then any stock F10 M5!
The reason I'm saying this is because I already raced a DCT M5 on the highway with my manual M3 on stock cats with VT1-535(basicly the slowest configuration of an M3 VT1 you can get) and from ~50km/h to ~220km/h it was dead equal! I'm sure that now with my test-pipes I should be just ahead and when I'll do the upgrade to the 550 pulley and tune, even more ahead! Logically a DCT M3 with VT1 should destroy the M5!(keep in mind that I always run 94octane in my car which I have found to make a HUGE difference on my butt dyno compared to 91octane) |

thanks for the input...looks like I need to buy the 550 and get this staged (on a private airstrip of course). I agree that the M5 seems underrated from the factory...its quick. But the lighter M3 with good shifting should be even. I doubt it would pull away.

Also, it seems the M5's and M6's are having major issues getting more power. I was hanging out with an M6 owner this weekend who has just AMS catless downpipes and made 580 to the wheels except his car will limp at the top of 4th gear everytime because it will exceed the "torque limit". He says the new Bosch ECU's are much harder to crack. I understand tuned M5's / M6's are having similar problems. That may be why they've been completely absent from the airstrip events. They can't get much beyond 130mph without limping.

I kept up with a brand new m6 in my VF540 E93. I would probably have pulled on him, if we were side by side. I was on his ass and he couldn't pull away. I had to back off a bit. I know he was flooring it from the exhaust plume he was leaving behind. I say you have no problem doing this with the lighter e92.

They're getting there, and you are right the new ECU's, especially in BMW's are the hardest ECU's to crack and develop with As time goes by, tuning will get better and better. Here's an up-to-date F10 with downpipes and a flash tune 633rwhp On this same dyno stock E90 M3's make 340rwhp.
