Just getting on it half throttle in normal driving to pull around another car at 4 or 5k revs draws more attention than I would like. In that situation, I could be in any car because I'm not really hauling ass, yet it's still loud. And at full throttle above 5k, I feel like I'm drawing the attention of every cop in the vicinity. Sometimes I think about getting rid of it to be honest w you. I I like to fly under the radar if you know what I mean.
Exactly like CSBM5 said, maybe you have the mid-section also? I have it, the car is pretty damn loud. I never had JUST the rear section so I can't compare the difference.

I have had multiple people roll down windows and compliment how awesome the exhaust sounds. It's nice, real nice.

This sounds pathetic, but I'm not entirely sure that I would be able to tell aftermarket from stock if I were under the car. However, I have all the receipts from the installation, and can confirm it's just the Free Flow Exhaust, whatever that entails from Dinan at the $2500 price point. I have all service history from same BMW dealership since the car was sold there new, and there is no evidence of any other modifications to the exhaust. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Seattle BMW--they did my PPI. I've also got the Dinan cold air intake system, which I think sells new for $999. That might make a difference in sound, but I doubt it...???

Trouble is, I bought the car with these modifications, so I cannot provide information on the contrast b/t OEM and the different Dinan pieces.

(I would've preferred a totally stock car, and generally that is my rule for buying a used M, but this one had no engine software tune, plus the second owner only put about 3K miles on the car between when he bought it, installed the mods, and then sold it to me a few months later (poor guy--he got transferred overseas and hated to sell it...but I digress...sorry)

On a scale of 1-10. How loud is the stock exhaust vs Dinan vs PE vs say a Race exhaust.

I am bumping this thing back from the dead but I have been contemplating going with a Dinan exhaust, from most YouTube videos I like the sound but do you guys think its very underwhelming unless I go with a different mid pipe? I am currently using my stock midpipe and it seems like no matter what axle back I go with its just not going to awaken this motor unless I go with a midpipe..

any input would be appreciated

For me the Dinan rear section is perfect as I didn't want something that would attract too much attention but just something a bit more aggressive than stock with a nice tone. Since my last post in this thread in 2015 I bought the Dinan rear section for the E90 M3 and have had it on the car for about 5 years now. I've been pleased with it.

Nice. i definitely am not the type to do anything for others, the special exhaust note is something I've always admired with this platform. Im glad you are enjoying the Dinan exhaust!

A local retailer has the axle-back version (mufflers only, no mid-pipe) on sale. So tempted! And it's cheaper than the Corsa.

I find that test pipes with Dinan cans is a real sweet spot for the S65.

Here's a good sound vid. I'd recommend this exhaust paired with a catless mid pipe. Sounds phenomenal when you want to be noticed while driving over 3k-4K. One of the best sound exhaust imo, no drone whatsoever

i love mine--had it for many years. No drone. Lets the s65 shine rather than drown it out with too much exaggerated bass. Looks good. I'd rather focus on intake sound anyhow.

If anyone is still interested... here is a video of my axle-back free flow exhaust from Dinan. Everything else is stock (I do also have the Dinan Stage 1 Engine Tune)
