This thread is great read mike. Let me know what you think of the new engine mounts. One minute its no where on my radar then all of a sudden Warot brings it up and now you! I was thinking of doing rear sub-frame and diff bushings first when the time comes.

Definitely give us your feedback on the mounts. I have experience with them on S54 & S52 applications and they are great. No vibrations and the power train does seem to stay in place much better than the stock mounts. Less movement makes for easier shifting that's for sure.

It seems everyone is talking about mounts and bushings right now. Everything I've read suggests subframe bushings are a no-brainer.
I hear differing things about the diff bushings. Some say it increases noise from the rear end. On the engine mounts, most say that they result in a lot of increased vibrations and are too much for a street car. Definitely looking forward to your experience, Mike. |

And I've got 76k on mine, so I can only assume they are shot. I can't tell that they are bad though.

I look forward to feedback. Are you going with the VT street mounts?

Looks like McKenna doing the swap on the e90 if I had to guess. Another shop for the S54 to S65 swap though.

Small update.. Car should be ready tomorrow. We've been carefully inspecting the e46 before the motor is pulled. Aside from knowing the previous owner very well and the piles of maintenance records, we wanted to make sure the engine is working properly in case someone purchases the S54. Vanos issues are common with these cars, and for that reason we performed factory diagnostic checks. Everything looks spot on perfect!
Transmission fluid on the E90 was flushed, and the engine is installed. The cleanup crew discarded the expansion tank, so a new one is on the way tomorrow and she'll be on the road again! |

Thanks everyone! Will update the thread tomorrow if the car is completed. For now the E46 sleeps pending engine removal:

V8s in E46s always sounds like music to my ears.
Seems like quite a pricey feat to swap in a new S65B40 into your E90 when your current low-mileage S65B40 is working well. I very quickly skimmed through the thread, so I apologize for overlooking a few things. But wouldn't a rod bearing replacement potentially remedy your concerns about your oil analysis results?
