The word "COILOVER"

Hi folks.I need some basic knowledge about the use of the word Coilover.

Coilover means when a spring is mounted on the top of a shock absorber.

On the E92 M3, the front suspension has coilovers.
But not the rear... Since the spring is not mounted on the Shock absorber. Spring and Shocks are separated

So when I read that somebody fits any aftermarket coilovers on his M3, Does it mean that he converted the rear suspension to a real coilover system, like on the M3 GT4 ??

Or does it means that that he mounted aftermarket Coilovers on the front, and upgraded Shocks and springs on the rear , but while keeping the stock configuration (Shocks and springs separated)
