Amazing! Thanks for sharing and definitely makes me regret I could not do ED.

Quick question: did you actually stop in Mulhouse on your way to Paris or you just drove by? I am from that area and there is a truly amazing car museum. A must see!

No I didn't, I drove from Bern to Paris through Dijon. I'll make sure I visit Mulhouse on my next ED trip

It puts a big grin on my face to see you had an amazing experience. Thanks for sharing the great pics. Your detailed travel route has some great tips for future enthusiasts too. Bravo!

I really liked the last picture. It sums up how we all feel about our wonderful driving machines.

The PCD will update us as soon as they can about your re-delivery date. The instruction you will receive there will make you appreciate your M3 (if you can believe it) even more than you already do. It was great working with you.

Congratulations,
David

This is a really great thread, thank you for posting your experience. The map is particularly helpful to me.

Did you get your car serviced over there at 1200 miles?

European delivery

Great pictures and write up, especially about the Nazi concentration camps. One day I would like my family and I to visit Germany and see all those historic places you and your wife have been. It was a monumental national shame and should never happen again. I'm so glad Germany had the human decency to preserve all those concentration camps for many generations to come.

I actually decided to wait till the car gets back. It was only 40 miles over the 1200 miles. In fact, I talked to David (Aviles) and he has arranged for the car to be serviced before I pick it up at the PCD. It will be covered under the maintenance program. My understanding is that if you service the car in Europe must pay out of pocket and then submit it to BMW NA for a refund.

Thanks for your comments!

Great report! Nice pics as well (though sad to see the Dachau ones). Congrats on your car. Had a good friend of mine take ED of his Valencia Orange 1M around the same time you were there.

Wow

I did ED from May 14 to May 27. Some of your shots are the same as mine. I went to Dachau and also to the Nurburgring. And my E92 M3 is on the Elektra now as well. As I write this the Elektra is pulling into Halifax harbour where mine will be unloaded.

Yes, GPS works great though in Italy I had nav tell me to make a left turn where there was no road or tell you to go the wrong way onto a one way, but overall it works fine and is really handy.
Insurance is provided for 2 weeks no charge but extra can be purchased, I seem to remember in 2 week increments. It's all handled very professionally and is great. I scratched my wheels in a tiny underground garage but they were fixed or replaced (I can't tell) and all the details are all taken care of.

Nice write up BTW.
I had exactly the same problem with Italy. There were tunnels that were not on the maps. When I came out of one of the tunnels the GPS said I driving though some farmer's field and couldn't provide me with directions until it found a road it knew about. The gas station finder didn't work worth a damn in Italy either. It kept directing me to quiet residential streets in older neighbourhoods where there had obviously never been a gas station. Other than that it worked great. I could never have done the trip without it.

Really enjoyed your post. I can't believe that BMW only gave you 1/4 tank when you took delivery! Thanks for the write-up.
