Absolutely, +1. Get folks all excited with billet and then switch it up. Perhaps it is not quite so intentional but it should be clarified.

Production model will be just like this one. We wanted to make a high end kit and this means a billet plenum.

Whether we have a cast plenum in the future is still being decided upon.

Random design/engineering question: Why a Xylan coating instead of anodizing? Xylan is most often used for its corrosion and low friction properties.
Xylan coating is going to be used because of its tough, stain and scratch resistant. The colour is also a consistent shade and won't discolour with heat.

Do cast to keep the cost down. No need for billet for 5-10 psi of boost. Do a textured finish to hide the minor casting flaws.

I recall Evolve saying this kit is for people that want absolutely no compromises, in any area. The very best of everything.

OK. Sounds way too expensive for me. I will follow the threads for more affordable supercharger kits.

Have to agree here.

Sorry to Evolve for jumping on you prematurely and assuming it would be cast. I'm sure they are doing a cost/volume analysis (sure hope so!). Perhaps in the volumes considered the high cost of casting tooling outweighs its low machine cycle time. I can't estimate the break even volume where cost would be close but I do think most of the other FI manufacturers do go with casting and they do so to keep costs low. These parts from billet, especially given the enormous amount of profiling with a small bit - I can't even imagine how many machining hours we are talking about here. Please don't do billet just because it is "cool", "high end" or any other subjective categorizations. Make the part at the lowest cost possible and pass that along in your pricing to consumers. The market is full of a lot of competitors!

Also, Evolve: Does anodizing discolor with underhood temperatures?

Definitely valid points. But, by "EAS" do you mean Evolve Automotive? Two different, but both great companies to work with.

Sorry, brain fart, of course I meant Evolve. I was thinking about some software mods I may do with EAS nearly concurrently. Fixed my post as well, which makes you like to you misquoted me. Oh well...

RE: billet cnc vs cast - I dunno. There are already solid kits on the market from multiple manufacturers. They will have to do something to differentiate themselves. Obviously depends what the cost difference is and overall performance.

There is no benefit to billet. A cast part can be made to look just as shiny and "high end" at a lower cost. Casting tooling on a part this complicated will pay for itself at relatively low volumes. Xylan coating actually makes more sense on a cast part as anodize doesn't look as good on porous parts.

People are saying there are no bennifits to going billet over cast, but what about material strengh? surely the part can be made much lighter in billet rather than cast due to it being much much stronger?

Do you have a weight for this plenum yet? would be interested to compare it to some of the cast items already available. P.s its very nice to see the cfd work being done, not seen many companies go to that effort

Now hurry up and finnish it! I have been waiting in the wings to see how this does before I choose a kit.

The weight of the plenum including the base plate is 6.9KG.
