If you had unlimited $.

and could hire car companies to build a supercar. what car companies would you go to for which parts?

for me, it'd be:

engine from AMG
chassis from BMW
awd from subaru/Audi
gizmos from Lexus
seats/interior from Audi
tranny from Mazda

ultimate supercar:
engine from ferrari (i'd take one of their V8s)
chassis from ferrari
rwd from ferrari
gizmos from Lexus
seats/interior from Audi
brakes from porsche
tranny from honda (seriously, drive an S2000, and you'll know what I mean

for my dream car, i'd take a ferrari v12 over their v8.

believe it or not they make some of the best feeling gearboxes on the road. a miata, gay as it may sound, is extremely fun to snick through the gears. its so good its almst like a videogame. you should drive one, they might be underpowered but they are really solid cars. (i think the miata/mx5 is the only RWD car mazda makes)

The standard trope was always to have the Brits do the interior, the Italians the exterior, let the Germans design the engine and have the Japanese build it.

But for me, I guess I'd like something with a Pininfarina body similar to the Ferrari 360, Porsche's carbon ceramic brakes and their steering/chassis tuning, the Lamborghini 5.0-liter V10 engine, Getrag transmission, with an interior designed and assembled by Aston Martin.

+1 on epbrown's comments on the exterior. Has to be done by Pininfarina.

Exterior - Nice sleek GT car in the style of the Ferrari 599, Aston Martin DB9, or Maserati GranTurismo.
Interior - Aston Martin
Engine - BMW
Chassis - Porsche
Electronics and putting it together - Lexus

Meh,

Just give me sleek exterior such as that of a aston martin DBS or Ferrari F430, The weight and handling of a Lotus, and interior of a Porsche, and slap in one of those v8's from ferrari, and ill be good to go!

tbh
i dont really think i can put a car together like that

i think the Carrera GT is the perfect car already. if there are anything to change, i'd change the gearbox to SMG. that clutch is just way too difficult to master.

and maybe the ability to fit a golfbag would be nice and having PSM would be even better and can make the car alot easier to drive when you dont want 100% focus.

yea i've driven one. the engine is just stunning, i've driven alot of supercars, Zonda S, Murcielago, Gallardo, F430, 997 Turbo, GT3RS, 800+HP R34 GTR.
just nothing can compare with the CGT engine, the sound is so sweet, the car is so rev happy. its like a really large bike engine. the chassis is in perfect balance with the engine as well. the shifter feels 100 times better then a S2000. exhaust sound super nice, especially when u have the AWE Straight pipes. and braking, there is nothing better then the PCCB. in a straightline a 997 Turbo would be almost equally as fast, but doesnt feel the same as a CGT

the clutch is not THAT bad, its kinda like a stage 3 triple plate clutch, but on a GT, it revs really fast so its hard to get the right biting point, and its pretty painful when everyone is staring at you and u accidentally stall. unlike those 800HP Skylines where the power dont come until your turbo spools so the slower rev makes the clutch engage alot easier. either way, SMG/F1 type tranny is a must on any supercars

also the CGT is pretty lightweight. it weight around the same as a Honda Civic only. in comparison, an SLR and Murcielagos are pigs.

Porsche and Nissan both have superior AWD systems over Audi and Subaru, at least from a performance perspective.

This is quite an interesting thread.

But supercars are not about execution, but rather philosophy.
