better keep your eye on the road !

It happens yesterday, i almost hit the guy in front of me.
He didn't engage the turn signal, coming from the left lane..turn to the right...Cool. I'm happy to use my camera all the time in my car....and engage my hand brake.
Some of you may say that i have bad reflex... but i was more expecting danger coming from the parking lot... ( look at the black (i think it's an honda accord) car )

(FYI it's not an m3... i cannot afford one for now but i could happen while drivinh an m3)

(sorry but english is not my first language)

I see this all the time in NJ, even on major roads (287, 78, 95, etc). Unfortunately, people around here do not understand that the left lane is for passing and people tend to camp out there going below (sometimes significantly below) the posted limit. I try to avoid passing on the right, but there are times when you have little option (e.g., someone doing 55 in a 65 (average driver speed is actually 70-80) in the left lane and the driver refuses to change lanes).

Not much sympathy as you were undercutting, but I agree about campers of the passing lane.

I would say you have good reflexes, but I'm trying to understand how it makes any sense to be filming while driving.

I think it makes perfect sense. A video document of what happened is a clear winner in court, as long as you are not the one at fault. It can damn you as much as it can help you, but it is a tool to be used. I'd consider doing it as well.

I LOVE undercutting. I am grateful to live in the US which has no silly law about not being allowed to undercut (just a suggestion to pass on the left). Weaving in and out of traffic willy nilly is what makes driving fun!

As long as it is a fixed mount camera I understand your logic. Otherwise..........

Undercutting?

Guys, there's no dedicated left turn lane on that road. In situations like that, I would avoid the left lane at every chance as well. If that is undercutting, then so would be not slowing if you notice the guy next to you to reducing speed to make a left turn left or just to gawk at a store window for that matter.

What the minivan driver did is completely and utterly wrong. There is absolutely no excuse for it. And look closely - s/he did not even bother to put on his blinker. I'll bet you anything the driver was on the phone.

People like that should honestly be taken off the road and forced to walk. You people are fucking killing our insurance rates and probably our citizens too.

Yes, Minivan was totally at fault, did anyone even realize he took a right hand turn from the left lane?

He didn't turn on his blinker because:

he needed to turn right on that street and didn't realized it was "that" street until he was almost into the intersection.

Cause: on the phone, following gps and was instructed to turn right, baby/kid in the back seat screaming, jackass, or all of the above!

This is why I stopped riding motorcyles out here in NJ. Far too many close calls just like this.

Exactly. Unless the OP was speeding, the minivan is totally at fault. You can't make a right turn from the left lane.

People who are not familiar with big city driving will probably look at the OP. But in general, taking the left lane in the city often leads to being in the turning lane, and usually the slowest lane because not all left turning lanes get their own signal and not to mention the density of the on coming traffic.

In downtown areas of NY, all bets are off. You got to drive like it's WAR.

Absolutely.
But that status isn't worth much after the fact.

Since this kind of thing happens as a routine matter it is up to the good drivers to anticipate and make effort to preclude the consequences.

Most accidents can be avoided if the driver not at fault is ready for and expects every other driver to cause a problem.

Being "right" in an accident is never a good situation. The only acceptable outcome is having done everything possible to ensure the situation can't happen.

undercutting? LOL this is not a track. No way making a right turn from the 2nd lane is legal. right lane, right turn.

Same thing happened to me except the asshole went into the left turn lane to make his turn only TO CUT ACROSS the MIDDLE LANE and the RIGHT TURN lane to make a right turn. Needless to say there was no way I could stop in time. I hit the ICE CREAM TRUCK, yep. LOL The knucklehead was found at fault and had a bogus insurance card on top of that. Good thing I had a witness as it was almost unbelievable.

Actually passing on the right of a car IS illegal in a lot of states. The exception is if it is a divided 2 way, or a multilane one way. (I know it is in TX; Defensive driving!)
