Help: M3 or M6 or GTR
Hey guys... i apologize in advance for bringing up an issue that has probobly been discussed a million times, however I currently have a 2006 m6 and have been contemplating getting rid of it to move into either a e92 m3 or the gtr... I have driven both the m3 and the m6 but never the gtr as dealerships never let me test drive them. Do you guys have any suggestions?? I really like the gtr but am unsure about quality... any feedback would help

From M6 I would fo for the GT-R....it's so fast and so easy to drive it fast.
As for the test drive, I would try to find a second-hand one for sale, I am sure the owner would allow you to take it for a spin if he really wants to sell it. Where I live, there are two or three GT-Rs with very low mileage for sale by private dealers. I am sure I can get them for a drive if I show real interest....but I am not interested.

I personally think the E92 M3 looks better but the GTR is definitely a more powerful machine.

The GTR is much more unique which is why I like it, its also much more Mod-able.
I also like the GTR because a modded E46 M3 wont run with you until 80-100mph. (which happened to me) On the other end of the spectrum I am amazed at how well rounded the E92 M3 is every time I drive it. It can be a comfortable cruiser, a respected road racer, and a blast at the track. The E92 M3 can be parked at a mall, and it can hold 3 Golf Bags when I wanna get a round in with some friends. The Interior quality is top notch with amazing German fit and finish. If balls out speed is your goal, GTR all the way. |

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback... I guess the thing I like most about the gtr is that it is rare... However, I still need to drive one. I was reading a lot of reviews and apparently the suspension is incredibly stiff? I live in Canada so I think that might end up being an issue as a daily driver. My other issue is I just don't think the m3 is exotic enough unless it is highly modified.
My other option is to keep the m6... I dunno though, I know that there is a new body style coming out,so I will probably be outdated sooner than later... I want something that I can drive everyday but still commands that "WOW" FACTOR Once again, thanks for all the feedback |

If you really, really care about speed.....Go for the GT-R.
If you want luxury, refinement, and high-revving performance.....Get the M3. Just remember, the M3 will never be any match for the GT-R in the performance department. Even with modifications, the M3 will still fall short, IMO. If I personally had a second chance....I most probably would've gone with the Gt-R. Good luck with your decision. |

The M3 and GTR are both nice (I had an M6 and hated it).
If performance matters get the GTR.The other two aren't even close. I think a lot of people that shy away from the GTR because it's a Nissan regret not buying it.

Here's my two cents: Get the newer M3 and put some mods on it with an ESS supercharger or something then you will be a happy man.

IMO Why not just get a GTR? If you are going to dump $20,000 on a super charger to make your M3 faster, why not just get a GTR and keep the factory warranty. I am sure the supercharger kits available for our cars are reliable, but I feel like after doing that much aftermarket work on your car, it isn't a daily driver anymore.

...because you may end up without a warranty anyway, if you drive the GT-R like it was meant to. Read some cautionary tales about warranties, transmissions, launching and disabling the VDC.
I have a 6sp on my M3 and the transmission recently broke - driving 20mph away from a stoplight, so it was obviously some internal/manufacturing defect. The dealer replaced it under warranty without a question in 3 business days and gave me a 135i loaner in the meantime. With a GT-R, they would have kicked my front teeth in, confiscated my wallet and given me a used Sentra to play with while the transmission took weeks to arrive from Japan. At 80 grand, why not a slightly used GT3? Should tick all the boxes - and it's far prettier. |
