No need, just wait for 1 minute until the idle drops and then start driving; just keep it in the low rpm until the oil temp is up.

DITTO - same here...you will notice she's a bit reluctant until warmed up anyway

just under a minute to get the oil going if you're just going out for a normal drive, if you're going out to do some spirited driving, maybe two minutes... the O2 sensor in our cars don't need the exhaust air to have reached a normal operating temp to analyze the air-to-fuel ratio. Unburnt fuel is pollution hence the need for the sensor. i don't know if you can remember but older cars with auto trannies used to hold the gears longer if you took off without warming up the car for this reason.

the correct way to warm the car is by driving it! Not letting it sit and idle

The best thing you can do with a cold engine is simply driving it.

Not full-throttle, just normal driving.

When the oil reaches it operating temp -> give it some stick

Yup. It's best to warm up the car while driving at low RPM's to ensure the gear oils are at proper temperature also.

Does the E92 M3 come with the interactive rev counter that raises the limit as the engine warms up?

Yes. When you start the car the rev limiter is set about 6000rpm (could be 6500rpm, not sure cause I haven't driven my car since December 1st) and starts to rise as the engine gets warm. It rises till you reach the wonderful 8400rpm. Just lovely!!

since it's been cold recently, my car died on me, and had to restart it. It did on at least three different occasions. It's been worrying me a bit.

Could be less or more than that depending on engine temp at startup, too. I think mine was down near 4500RPM at cold start when we had 0 degree temps.

I haven't driven the beast in so long I forgot what the inside of my car looks like. We got an inch of ICE last night and today.... snow predicted for the weekend.

Groundhog day can't come soon enough.

I agree. I believe its says in manual or brochure also somewhere that you don't need to warm up. The cars heats faster and less strain on engine when you drive than idleing.

I let it sit sometimes while inside putting shoes/boots on.....but never longer than 2 or 3 minutes. I think a minute or two is fine.

I normally let my car sit and warm up for 3 to 5mins. Is that a overdoing it and a complete waste? Am used to my dad's advice about ensuring cars are warmed up before driving off since the day I got my license. Are there any risks with regards to engine increased engine wear if you just drive off without proper warming up?

Will try rid of the 3min habit.

I pretty much hop in the car, put the heated seat on, and then start driving. But I do not push the car at all until the oil temps are where they need to be. My drive to work is only around 1.5 miles so she only starts to get at normal operating temps as I am pulling into or from work lol.

There is nearly any sin larger than kicking a cold car. I m very very very careful when i start the car at low temperatures (that means idling for some minutes, then driving at low rpm till the oils are all warm and sticking to that 5 minutes post reaching the correct oiltemperatur)...
maybe itīs a bit too careful... but itīs a M! I love my M and ll treat it according to that.
