Long Term Storage Questions
I've picked up an old merc that I'm going to be driving for the next few years. I might get the M out a couple times a year but it'll be parked the majority of the time. I've looked around online and the consensus seems to be
I have all that covered but wanted to see if there might be some other suggestions. I vaguely remember hearing that if you park the tires on pieces of carpet, it can help prevent dry rot. Is there any truth to this? Any other ideas?

Aren't you worried about engine seals drying and cracking? I take it its going to be sitting for more than 4 weeks at a time

get pieces of wood plates underneath the wheels, actually carpets are okay too.
get wheel chocks, set them on at least 1 front and 1 rear wheel don't put your parking brake on, especially for a long term parking like that the parking brake will bite on the brake and stick

I would be careful of a trickle charger. Maybe a good float charger instead. Or if you are around just hook trickle charger up once a month.
A few years is going to be a long time for a tank of today's gas; can you find non ethanol gas near you? Google ethanol-free gas. It lasts longer. Starting it without bringing it up to temp can cause moisture problems in the engine. You might change the oil after a year of two. Insurance might be a problem but if you get a chance take it out for a good run when you can. |

I would get a set of flat stoppers that Race Ramps sell. Wood and carpet won't cut it.
