Mine seems to be on whenever the HVAC is set to auto, regardless of what temperature it is outside. It's on even when the heater is running. I thought that was normal.

Just turn off auto mode and adjust the temp yourself. Aircon will stay off that way. With auto mode on, Aircon will kick in to keep your desired temp. Aircon will turn on even when you have heating on to suck up moisture so your windows doesn't fog up.
The topic has been discussed before. Here on the e89 zpost: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthre...ht=aircon+auto T |

My AC turns off and stays off when I hit the AC button wether it's on auto mode or not. However, when I try to turn the hvac off entirely by decreasing the fan to 0 bars, the HVAC will often turn itself back on after a few minutes.
Better to feed the gremlins in this way than to have AC permanently on I guess.

Same here. When hitting the 'A/C' button, compressor (and light) turn off, and auto mode turns off as well. And if I turn my HVAC off, it doesn't turn back on by itself. Maybe it's temperature related, but it didn't in winter. The only annoying part of this stupid system is when it's off, you have no air circulation at all. On all my other cars, if you turn system off with 'recirculation' off, you get air flow at the vents and temperature last selected. And lastly, the volume of air blown by this HVAC system is truly pathetic, and it's noisy as hell too. Oh well.

I agree 115% about the air volume.

And +3 on the noise level and volume. I suppose there will be an option on the next 3 series version called "Performance Ventilation System" for $1,800 where you'll get a bit more air volume and a bit less noise (man, doing my taxes sure puts me in a crabby-ass mood ). |
