Took ford long enough. Not knocking their effort, just saying to gloat about beating a car thats been out since 07 really isn't impressive.

Except the M3 is almost 4 sec. faster at VIR...this is one track, also the car was on the Contis not the PS2's. Don't get me wrong I actually love Mustangs..considered one before the M3. It is almost equal in performance, better fuel economy (by a lot), but still not quite ready for prime time when it comes to the other things that make a fine automobile.

The mustang is a nice car, don't get me wrong, but there are many things that separate these two cars. Even if the mustang beat the M3 by just a hair, on every track, I would still take the M. The mustangs ride is much stiffer, the interior looks and feels cheaper, and the overall body style just doesn't do it for me.

Yes the Boss is a monster, would love to get one and trick it out for the track, but I will take a M3 as my weekend fun car any day of the week.

Not sure where you see everyone claiming that their M3's are the fastest car in the world, etc. You'd probably find more people here appreciating/praising what Ford is doing, than shoving them aside like they are inferior. And you're right, it's 2011 which is why a new M3 is due soon to "step it up." You obviously came here with a purpose - probably won't satisfy it though.

Maybe it is you that thinks the M3 is the fastest car on the road..... I know mine is not..... There are tons of cars that are faster than the M3 and quite a few cost less!

I commend Ford for the abilities and value they have instilled in the new Mustang 5.0 but no matter what, a Mustang is a Mustang and an M3 is an M3. They are cars in different categories with different customers.

to the new 5.0 but I will keep my M3. To those who choose to buy the Mustang instead, they are getting a great car too!

I'll say this again and please note I'm not a fanboy.

The e9x m3 has been available for about 4 years now. Until now there has been no clear competitor for the m3.

The new 5.0, boss 302, and lci c63 are now finally able to knock the m3 off it's high horse. This is a fact.

However, the m3 is clearly showing it's age and is about to end production, it has more that served it's purpose for this 3 series model.

The next m3, if history is any indication, Will better than the predecessor.

What does that mean? The competition will take (X) amount of years to catch up to the m3 again.

While many out there and in here are getting bent out of shape that the m3 is getting beat now, I think it's great that the auto industry is holding the m3 as the car to beat and the standard of small sports coupes.

Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Top Speed of the 5.0L Mustang is 155mph..limited by electronics. As is the M3.

WRONG.......... A buddy of mine just had a Ford Racing Supercharger put on his, full exhaust, long tube headers and a tune...... tops out at 140 due to the limiter. And regardless of what BMW claims of 155 limited (and I am aware of speedo deviation) I have had my M at 172mph on the autobahn... with no tune.

Cool story, but a "stock" Mustang is not a 5.0 Mustang. They are two different types of Mustangs.

The base Mustang has a 3.7L V6, while the 5.0 GT actually has a 5.0L V8.

Different builds. This isn't a stock/base Mustang in this comparison.

Same with mine, but only about 170 mph, not quite as fast I miss the Autobahn
