Just Placed the order, $2,500 under MSRP!

So I started off looking in my area for an M3 Sedan. I needed DCT (so the wife can drive it) so I knew it had to be an ordered car. All 12 or so NYC area dealers laughed at me when I asked for something under MSRP. So I decided to look elsewhere. Since I have some buddies in Pittsburgh, I figured I would try there and make a trip of it to get it. Ended up with Tom Morgan at P&W Foriegn Cars and he agreed to order it for me at $2,500 under MSRP. I leased it, worked out to about $960 a month, with only taxes down. Here is what I spec-ed

- AW
- Cloth/Leather (don't really care about leather and since its a lease resale for me isn't an issue)
- Tech Package
- DCT
- heated seats
- sat radio
- bmw assist
- pdc

This is the 1st car I have ever ordered just the way I wanted. I liked doing it cause I could just take the options I needed and not the packages. I currently have a range rover sport, but before that had a Z4 so it will be nice to be back in the BMW fold!

Mine will be built in the begining of June. Now just have to wait!

Quick question for those of you who purchase from dealerships outside of your state....

....when you register it within the state that you reside, do they charge additional registration fees?

It may prove beneficial for me to look outside of my state when purchasing despite having an extensive history with my dealership. I'm just curious about the cost/benefit analysis.

No problem at all outside the state. The dealership should do the work to register it in whatever state you live in. I will just drive home with temp plates and get the real NJ plates in the mail. I pay NJ tax, not PA.

So if you're paying the tax based on the state that you reside in, what's the draw to buying out of state? Is it just to save a few thousand off of the MSRP? Again, I'm just weighing whether it's worth it to save a few thousand off of MSRP (..and still pay CA taxes), but lose some, if not all of those savings in travel expenses.

I can only speak for myself, but the draw was that I live in the NYC area where no one will deal on an ordered M3. I will make a weekend out of picking it up (plus eat up some of the breakin on the way home), but even if I wasn't going to do that I could have gotten a cheap flight to pitts in the morning and drove home the same day. So my ticket will eat some of my discount, but not much ($200 max).

The way I looked at it, in some parts of the country people may be feeling the economic slowdown more then others. In CA and NYC there are still probably enough buyers that there is no incentive for a local guy to deal. In other places, you may catch a dealership that needs a sale.

Would I do this if I had to fly across the country...probably not. But for me its only 1 state over, so its no big deal. A few people on the board suggested expanding the search radius....its not a bad idea.

Thanks for your insight bro. It was much appreciated, and it helps me put things in perspective. I'd wager that if I could catch a stellar deal in AZ or NV, then it may be worth it as the drive isn't bad at all. I'm hoping that my dealership continues to do as they've done in the past, which is to provide me with great return customer service. If it goes south, well.....so will my business.

good job bro

i think you have to be out of your mind to pay msrp these days. GM just posted 3.3 billion in loses in 1Q, gonna get worse and worse.

be patient and dont let the dealer rip you off. excuse my language but you gotta be a dumbass to pay msrp.

I agree, but socal is stupid. Still probably enough folks paying above sticker to make it difficult to get more than 1k off msrp. Happy to be wrong here . . .

Go to rural states for a nice discount.

I just purchased my Silver M3 sedan for $2650 of sticker. It was a base model with only the metallic paint for 475. Sticker was 56350 and I paid 53700 (with doc fees included). I only had to pay 450 for shipping to my door to pick up my Range Rover Sport trade in. Negotiate...or walk away if they laugh at you like they did at my Chicagoland dealer.

I ordered mine for 2500 off as well but after seeing this one on ebay maybe there is more wiggle room.

I was trying to get week 24 to 26 production e90 M3 with M-DCT and thanks to you guys answering my PMs, I end up with week 24, $2,XXX off, and M3 floormats. OC still shows it as a 2005 Z4, but customer service 800# says it will be a M3 sedan when the system catches up from all the glitches. THANKS !
