Well coming from a 7D, it's about half as fast. And the buffer fills way earlier. I should have been shooting with the 7D today, as a matter of fact. Although pulling ISO3200 would not have been as clean on the 7D. But the 7D wouldn't have missed the shots that the 6D did with its better AF system. Like I said though, my intention heading out today was to shoot images of slow circling buzzards, not a speedy little papillon dog.

Nice shot, Denn. But man, that GAP store across the street just doesn't belong there. Should be a club or a neighborhood restaurant or something.

Mark,
Ditch the slow buzzards and keep the dog. It will help with panning and catching those planes or race cars later this year.
Borrow the dog and use a "chuck-it"

Agreed! Kinda makes the brain hurt a lil!

I played with my sisters 6D yesterday at a family gathering too. Sure nice in low light.. but outside, my 7D just blew it away. I guess it was marketed more to the 'portrait' folk.. like my sis, shooting babies and couples!

Gotta try the buzzards. I just found out there is (ok, may be) a nesting pair of bald eagles at the local reservoir. I *must* get over to snap some shots of them soon. I need to start with some slower moving birds first, though.

I think the 6D/7D combo will prove as useful as the 5d MkII/7D combo.

I think your right Mark! Although, I'm ditching my 7D for a 5dMk3.. mainly because I dont really want to keep two bodies, an X100, an instax, two old film SLR's and my gf's P &S TOO MANY CAMERAS!!! hahaha did I say that out loud? Heres a pic to make up for it...

Just for fun, going WAY back. I took this with my first digital,a Kodak, back in 99, when we were doing dirt field training with the C-17

That must have been pretty unpleasant being ground crew when that went by. Then, it also looks like you were up wind.

We had to space the takeoffs and ladings an hour apart to let the dust settle. The base population didn't care for us much either as the cloud drifted over the base exchange

Thats a pretty nice dirt field!!

Just a little bit narrower and shorter.. but still considered an 'Airstrip' if a citation will land on it

Or we could go land on some sea ice next to one of the ice breakers thats stuck..

I kind of like going 'offstrip' but still prefer the two pontoons below me and a nice patch of open water!!

Nice shots, Rowdy. You certainly fly into rugged places.

Agreed Rowdy, cool shots, I miss working in aviation.

Great kitty shot! My two can go from best friends to arch enemies and back to cleaning each other in what seems like seconds!

Thanks guys and yes glad its still there. Many people still go there throughout the day, just not sure whats going on in there.

Hahaha, yes that gap shocked me when they put it there. So out of place.

A bit more of a remote strip...even further in the way-back machine. This is Patuca Ecuador in 1995. Taken from a C-27 on final, the tents on the right belonged to the group we were re supplying.

(Back to the digital age tomorrow. I took about 500 birding yesterday, but haven't had a change to process most of them yet.)

Holy crap, that's not a runway, it's bad patch of grass.

You guys had some serious balls to be landing on strips like that.
