Quite honestly, why would you now pick one of these over a 458 Italia?

Porsche fans will always have a dedicated following, and a GT3 will be half the cost of a 458. |

I'm not a die hard manual fan but understand and appreciate what it is. I have dct myself and totally see the realistic future of performance cars and what transmissions they have but it was nice to know that some companies with specific cars would still offer a manual on the appropriate models even if it were not the best option in terms of performance

So....I am going to keep my e92 M3 for sure (its not going to get traded in for this), but man....I am going to have make some extra room in the garage and WAY more extra money. Hopefully my stocks start to make AMAZING returns before this comes out (although I realize this is highly unlikely)

Isn't a 458 well over 200K still. Would have a hard time choosing a new gt3 over a used f430 though. If I was going to drive the car a lot, I think the gt3 would be the better choice.

Depends on options, the 458 can be north of $300K plus there is the typical $50 to $100K markup for a new car. A used 458 with a few thousand miles can be had in the high $200's but the GT3 is always a better bang for your buck. But, different strokes for different folks.

After watching the Evo interview with Andreas P., I'm sad. The car looks great, spins to 9000rpm, and is more modern. The PDK is the way of the future, and that's borne out on racetracks in most major pro racing classes. But I think Jethro Bovingdon hit the nail on the head when he asked, "Are you in a sense 'dumbing down' the GT3, seeking a wider audience" and increased sales? Apparently so--Andreas P. equivocates a bit and says, "This will be a better daily driver, more useful every day." That's what the Carrera S is for. Preserve this one for the enthusiasts. It's very similar to what's happening at BMW M. Andreas P. says, in defense of this new car no longer being based on the proven Metzger GT1 engine, "It is DFI, but we have made it to have an uneven, lumpy idle" to suggest raciness. This is the same as BMW going to a noise-muffled TT V8 for the new M5, and then playing an artificial engine soundtrack through the car's speakers for an immersive, "authentic" racy engine sound. One can only expect the new M3 to be the same. Rear-wheel steering? Many manufacturers have tried it in the past, with varied success. The GTR comparison is valid. Clearly they are using this because the new car is bigger, and likely felt bigger in a negative way until they added the rear steering. 20" wheels? Marketing BS. They're chasing trends. If this car were designed for enthusiasts who regularly hit the track, Porsche would have stopped at 19" wheels. Well, hopefully a lot of wealthy people who just like to pose around town will snap this new one up, and then maybe prices for the 997.2 GT3 on the used market will come down to the reach of us mortals. So, I guess I'm happy.

As with DCT - I'm sure I'd be faster with it, but I still prefer the involvement of a manual box. There is something wrong about the look of an automatic lever in a GT3. I agree about the Metzger engine. That was a clear cost cutting move. All that said, this is still an awesome car. |

I am following the development of the 991 GT3 with great interest. It was clear for the last 5 month that this car will not have a manual gearbox. The new/highly modified DFI engine was developed with the PDK together. Adding a manual would have been very expensive. It is still debated if the new RS will have a manual or not.
This car surely will be a different driving experience than the 997.2 GT3 was. Will be faster than the old RS. Also will be much more "accessible" for non-professionals. My issues with the car are the centerlock 20" wheels, and the potential fro carbon build up in the engine (The Metzger engine was too expensive and was difficult to mate with the PDK was dropped even earlier than the manual gearbox. ) |

Better in terms of outright speed is not necessarily better than the sport of it, the satisfaction of taming a car that forces you to be your best to get the most from it. I always saw the GT3 as the last vestige of this line of thinking. Reserving judgement until I hear more but not hopeful. Will be an amazingly quick car, but I'm going to keep my eye out for a nice 997.2 GT3 or RS.

I had a 997.2 gt3 and loved it but it was way too harsh to drive it as much as I would have hoped to. I think what Porsche has done is great and will ultimately lead to a better all around car. I also loved the metzger engine, the way it sounded and rumbled was a thing of beauty, but it did have its faults particularly lazy throttle response would make it difficult for smooth heel toe downshifts. I'm very excited about the new car, have been waiting for more details for quite some time and I think I'm gonna sell my r8 for one real soon
