I can verify that with 12 years working as an engineer and now an engineering manager, I have never needed calc, and never will.

Huh? How do "10 years at a major financial institution" qualify you for making statements about whether it is used in real life or not? I'd say it actually disqualifies you.

Math teachers are like women. They don't care if your answer is right, they just want to know all the BS in-between, and if it's not what they want to hear, in the end, you are ultimately wrong.

He is just teaching you life lessons.
