If Money Were No Object

Would you buy a new E9x M3 or the new M5? And why the one over the other?

I would probably have both. But I would go with the m3 first, simply because that's where my heart lies.

I haven't driven the new M5 but I have driven the old E60 M5 a couple times. The old M5 definitely felt like a larger car than the M3 and didn't have the same "tossability" feel. The V10 engine was amazing and it definitely handled well for its size but I preferred the overall feel of driving my M3. I rarely have rear seat passengers so the increased size and price isn't worth it for me.

Not so sure about that, at least the test mule has been spotted with the manual transmission. Given the US demands for a manual I assume it will be offered...

Back the OP's question, M3 over the M5 but as others point out if money were no object it would be neither!

If money were no object I'd have an R8 along with my M3
I'd never drive an M5
It big, and its fat
No matter how many turbos or horsepower they give it
