stunned by new C-class...

Mercedes has just released the new C-class and it sounds like its a winner. I just built one on the Canadian Mercedes web site, a C300, and Mercedes are finally priced aggressively! A C300 would sell for roughly 5 grand less (CDN) than a comparably equipped BMW 328i ! I am stunned ... it used to be the other way around! The C350 seems to ring in at the same price as the 335i...

I saw it at Rev it Up in the parking lot, and it wasn't that great looking. The performance is way behind Infiniti, BMW and Lexus as well.

Theres quite a few members who have given reviews on the c-class in the "other cars" section.

Looks are there (in my opinion), comfort, luxury, class, technology, saftet are all there.

The only thing that is not is performance. I know......I test drove the C300.

The C350 will have more power, but still way under bmw, lexus, and infiniti.

That being said.......I still like it

The problem with your statement is that the C350 is comparable to the performance of the 328i.

While that may be the case, I have always found MB's to be a bit too softly sprung to enjoy. That said I haven't driven a C300...

Of course, if what you seek is comfortable and stylish transportation, then it might prove to be the more frugal choice.

The "demographic" that buys that model is more concerned about the other pieces it brings to the table..comfort, technology, safety, etc. Even if it's at the performance level of a 328, that's still more available performance then most people will use in 99% of their driving.

I cannot say anything about the performance or handling of the new C-class but I just love the way it looks!

You're right, but I was just commenting on the price comparison. The C350 is more than the 328i.

Very true but again for that demographic, the price will be worth it to them just like it's worth it for people here to spend $6-7K more on a 335 then a comparable Infinti, Lexus, etc.

how do you figure? The C300 puts out the same horsepower and more torque over a larger range than the 328i. Seems to me like the C300 should be close to 328i performance.

The new C-class has AGILITY control which is supposed to automatically firm things up when spirited driving is detected... I would think this should make this aspect better?

Mercedes says that the C300 will do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds in the automatic. However magazines have managed to get 7.0-7.1.

The 328i can get 6.8 in an automatic, and 6.2 in with a manual.

I have not seen 0-60 figures for a C300 manual.

All I know is that 7.2 is too slow, that's why I wanted a 328i coupe manual because 6.2 is pretty nice.

Remember that the base price in the US is around $31,000. For someone looking for some great european styling and curb appeal, $31,000 isn't half bad!!! I drove it yesterday and I don't like some of the features, or lack thereof.

When I optioned the C300 is was pushing 39K without leather! Yikes!

I have the pricing sheet at my house. I can post how much each of the options cost if anyone is interested.

Also the C300 comes with more standard features than a 3 series so I don't see what your talking about?

bluetooth and Power seats are standard.

I think MB is a ripoff. The C-class is so expensive and it's not even fast or fun to drive. Actually, every goddamn model they make is way overpriced. For example, the SLK350 starts at like $48k+- by the time you're done with the options you're looking at about $60k. I'd much rather buy a Z4 M coupe/roadster for that money.

FWIW Im not biased toward MB because if I had a lot of money I'd probably buy the CLS but IMO they're just overpriced.

Actually, in the past you were correct about the C-class being over priced. However, now the new C-Class actually costs less than a 328i... the 328 requires a lot of add-ons (pricey ones) to come to the base spec C300... at least here in Canada. The new C is priced more aggressively than any c-class before
