BTW, tires can still be repaired even if you've used the liquid sealant (if you haven't driven on it flat). The shop just needs to clean the gunk out.

I helped research and put together a compact spare tire solution. It will work for front and rear. Info here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ght=spare+tire. I don't go on trips without it.
Awesome Tip--I will be picking these items up for sure.

thanks!

It took a day and half to fix a flat! Why do people keep saying how well this worked out, it should have been 15 minutes.

Yes, it cost him no cash from his wallet, but if on a trip to close a business deal it could have cost him dearly.

Funny you mentioned that; after making the call to reschedule my appointment with my largest client for the following morning--I feel the empathy that followed (especially since my car was spotted by one of his employees on the flat bed headed west; easy to spot that kind of car in Montana, especially on display as it was...) landed me two crutial, large purchase orders with his company. The very first thing he wanted to know was the details about what had happened--we must have talked an hour about it before regular business was even brought up. He is a car buff himself and knew that I was taking the M3 for the spin instead of flying over--I can almost say for certainty this assisted in my success.

Also, under the circumstance, BMW did a very good job with the resources available to them in BFE. I felt relieved that they took the time and effort to get my car to a place who could replace the tire with confidence safely and without damage to my car. Everyone truly seemed like they cared about the end result. It was quite satisfying.

Someone has probably already answered this but I bought the tire insurance with my 330 and went through 3 tires replaced with no problem. So I bought same with this car since I tend to go through my tires, only covers damage, not simple wear and tear but I got my money's worth for sure.

BMW should really have the wheel/tire as a preconfigured accessory, even if it's not included with the car. As you note, the tires are not easily found in many areas one might be travelling.

Ditto on the tire/wheel insurance.. I have it on both my Bimmers. Well worth the cost.

I've never had nonrepairable damage (just nails, etc.) in 8 years of M3 ownership, so I didn't get it.

Did you replace tires each time you had a nail? BMW does not recommend tire patching. They recommend tire replacement. The beauty of the insurance is full tire replacement,

at no cost each instance.. The same applies to the factory wheels if you damage them via road hazzard..

On regards to this "Tire insurance" is it something that you do directly with BMW? A special and EXTRA plan they offer that cover any tire problem and replaces it no questions asked?

That's overkill for most small punctures, IMO. Speed-rated repairs cost me $20 or so. With replacement you often end up with one new and one worn tire at one end of the car. Also, noit the most environmentally responsible thing to do. For major damage to tires and wheels it would certainly be nice. I just hve not had that experience.

I think Audis used to have full size spare.

BMW's no spare policy is really terrible. Tell that this is the kind of Joy drivers want to experience in the middle of nowhere.

How many times will BMW replace your tire under a insurance claim? What if someone is slashing their own tire every time it wears thin?

if i were going to take a long road trip through unpopulated areas, I would always have a spare. it's great that BMW came through, but I couldn't stand a 5 hour drive w/ a tow truck driver. no way.

Could you imagine how much whining and crying there would be if BMW installed factory runflats on a M3?

When I got if from the dealer I was told I could only go to the dealer I purchased it in order for it to be honored. But they never gave me a hard time, even if it was a nail and they replaced the tires. The only thing I wondered is if this happens out of town, can you get a credit from them through another dealer. As for the M it sounds like some people carry a spare, how is that, no room with everything I else I carry in my trunk.

It does take up some room, but it is only 5" wide (high lying on the trunk floor). Tough if you are travelling fully-loaded, though.
