A Television Outdoors?!?!?!?

Yes, I want to live the dream. I want to mount a TV outside that would be visible from both my deck and from the pool. We already have a speaker system outdoors, so I am not too concerned about the sound. I have found "SunBrite TV's" on the net, but they are insanley pricey, about 7k for a 55 inch.

So, my questions:

-Has anybody successfully done this?
-Can I buy an indoor LCD or LED and just get an enclosure?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Photo shows where I want to mount the TV.

I would recommend mounting it on the wall behind where you currently have it on the column, if it weren't for the column being there to obstruct the view from the pool.

I don't think it's a good idea to try and mount it on the column. I wouldn't necessarily trust it there for stability reasons (depending on the size), and of course you have weather concerns.

It doesn't look very feasible to install some sort of covering for the TV if you mount it on that column.

I have tvs in the exterior patios. I wouldn't put it there though, the sun wouldn't let you watch anything, beaming right on it like that.

True, even if it were an LCD.

Perhaps under the deck where it is shaded more of the time, mounted facing either north or south would be better in terms of visibility/sun movement

Yeah, you'd need an insanely bright backlight for a TV to be out there, and it'd have to have the glare-free coating. It'd have to be weatherproofed, though that wouldn't really be the hard part I guess.

a) needs to be in the shade
b) I would put it under something to slightly shield it from the weather even if is in an enclosure. Which will run you probably $500-1k.

I have a neighbor who has one on his deck but it's covered. I have a hard time thinking that you'd see anything in direct sunlight. It needs to be in the shade for multiple reasons.

We put a TV on a TV-specific cart at my work. There was a converter the AV guys used that converted the signal (Component to RJ45) to a data cable. The data cable plugged into the ground which was wired to the existing network. Much easier this way and less worry with theft/weather.

You live in NYC and you wanna have a TV outside the house? Wouldn't the TV be gone in like 2 days?
