BMW Race cars on display in Greer SC
A special display of 37+ historic BMW race cars is now open and runs through December of 2017. The earliest is a pre-war 328. The most recent is an e92 M3-GTLM. An M1 Pro-Car sits next to a line of four Bat-Wing cars; each represents a different generation of evolution. My favorite is the Peter Gregg car that won the 24 hours of Daytona back in the day. Or is it the #51 car that won its class at LeMans back in 72.There is a McLaren F1 that raced at LeMans. Oh and a very interesting 700RS race car and the very first M3 to come to America.
In May of 2017, a new BMW museum opened in Greer SC, less than two hours from Atlanta or Charlotte. At its launch, it is the second largest BMW museum in the world.*The BMW Foundation is a 501c.3 charity organization formed under the BMW Car Club of America. While not actually a part of BMW America, it does adjoin the BMW Performance Center and operates in cooperation with BMW- USA. All proceeds from the BMW Foundation go to the support of the “Street Survival” training project for teen drivers. BMW CCA is the largest car club in America and has been for many years. The roots of the new Foundation are found with this group. Fifteen years ago, the Club headquarters had accumulated books, catalogs and other significant items donated by members. It was all stored in one bookcase at headquarters. Through the vision of a few enthusiasts, this bookcase collection has grown to be the pride of the marque. The Foundation’s 15,000 sq. ft. building*was previously a pharmaceutical plant. It sits on an eight acre campus. This phenomenal accumulation of memorabilia, land, and building has been through donations.

My guess is that many of the cars will remain beyond the end of the year. All of the cars are privately owned and the cars will be returning a few at a time. The BMW NA cars will probably go all at once.
Contact Michael Mitchell at the Museum for details: michael.mitchell@bmwccafoundation.org The Foundation is worth visiting even after the race car exhibit ends. With planning you can tour the factory / Zentrum (amazing!), the Performance Center, and the Foundation Museum.
