That's actually a members car I believe. I can't imagine it holding up, maybe matte black but not white.

I'm not sure why you would buy a black car and have it coated in white plastic. The door jams, ect will still be black. What a waste of time and money; in my opinion. But, each to their own.
The person probably had a couple extra grand laying around and wanted their car to match their prom suit. |

This could be good for a really long road trip or long term storage. Other than that I wouldn't touch it............Phil

I just don't think the white will hold up to normal pollution and other atmosphere stains. I guess you could just wash the car with dish soap if it got bad lol or buy a couple of cans for $50 bucks lol......Interesting idea none the less.

Isn't the texture of plastidip rough and not smooth like vinyl or actual paint?
I can't see how a rubber feeling material would be aesthetically appealing. |

I've never understood the fascination with this stuff to where people would slather it all over a car. I also cannot believe people are paying to have this done.
He wastes a lot of time on the prep. Instead of removing parts that he doesn't want sprayed, he takes time to tape stuff which will ultimately have to be dealt with after the stuff dries. His name is Fonzi... Last edited by THE TECH; 07-05-2012 at 09:35 AM.. |

I plasti-dipped my wheels white for 3 days and the only reason I removed it was because it was easier then trying to clean them. (Shit was a pain!)

Plastidip holds up extremely well and the way it is diluted gives it a smooth finish. Cleaning is just as simple as wiping/washing it off

I haven't seen plasti dip before and I was quite amazed at how it didn't bond between different surfaces like you would expect paint to (he made peeling it off seem very easy)!
Granted I probably would not do this to my car long term, but yeah if you're doing a weeklong cruise or something or a few days on a track, then it looks like a great way to protect your paint whilst also having a new look for a few days! Good old fonz

LOL @ the white fender wells!
Also, imagine what it looks like when you open the doors or the trunk when he sprayed it like that (slowly fade back to black inside the jambs)!

The guy did an amazing job. Personally for me I would never do anything like this. I can not see it holding up too long after a few car washer and or rock chips. With all the time this took it had to be a few thousand dollars.

Friend with a Lexus is300 is going to plasti dip his whole car matte white with the Wagner 350 gun so it doesn't have the rough texture to it. He already plasti dipped his gfs 335i wheels in black and they are smooth not textured. All about the application and how well u clean the surface before applying to determine how it looks after drying and how long it will withstand the elements. When he's finished I will give some pics and report back on his discoloration and durability if there is any issues or not.
