Speed limiter removed

Hey guys,

I want to remove the speed limiter on my M3/E90 as I am planning to take the car on a trip to tha German Autobahn...

Does anyone know where I can have that done???

I searched a lot, but did not find anything helpful.
Many thanks!!!

A.

AFAIK you need to participate in the M-Driving school in Germany and than BMW de-limits your car

Well most ECU upgrades have a top speed limiter delete.

I know that firms like Evosport, ESS, and others will have ECU's available soon.

If you want just the limiter removed, go to any high end tuning facilty with a dyno and computer system. I am more than sure they can reprogram it.

Are you planning on returning to Europe with your car?? I am sure once there you will find some solutions... perhaps even BMW in D?
Are you planning on going on the Ring?

Do know yet, but going for work to Germany a couple of weeks...
Renting a car vs shipping my car is not that big difference (and the cost of renting will be reimbursed.. ). I was told it will take only 10 days (so will have no car for 1.5 weeks twice, but I live in the city so no problem for me.

Hartge offers speed limiter removal for cars built until Jan 2008.
Hamann also offers an ECU upgrade
G-Power offers ECU upgrade of 21HP, including top speed removal, and 3yr European warranty.

You're looking at around 2000-2200 EUR for either of the first two. I'm not sure about G-Power. They all give a warning that you'll need suitable tires to be safe at 300km/h... That just sounds stupid - "to be safe at 300km/h"

Hope the references help.

Thanks!

The 'standard' 19" have MichelinPS2 for 186mph+, wouldn't that be enough for speeds up to 300kmh already? Well, not planning on going 300kmh+, but just over 250kmh would be great for overtaking those Audi's...

Dont want to break your heart, but people over here on the Autbahn are not driving at those speeds. If you are traveling about 120mph you are passing nearly all traffic. Ocassionaly you see some fast movers but very few. I am still breaking in my car and cant wait to unleash it, but I still passinf 70% of the cars doing 100mph. Which the car is getting great gas milage by the way. If you have any questions or would like to get together for a beer let me know. There are allot of fest and parties going on over the next 8 weeks.

Who knows, I'll be in Munich in September and than again in April 2009...
But as I am originally from Holland and worked in Frankfurt and had a Porsche... I know what's like over there

I was overtaken by a Porsche Turbo while driving 260kmh....

Cheers!
