Almost 8K miles and have a couple rattles:
1. Center dash ... when I hit a bump, I swear the window sounds like it is about the shatter. Not sure what or where it is but getting it looked at Friday. 2. Passenger window rattles when the door closes. Driver side sounds tight. 3. I think some speakers rattle but can't tell with my exhaust. |

I had one too with teardrop wheels, mine didn't rattle too bad.It was a fun car to drive. I still remember its peculiar warning beeps, sounded more like the beginning of the godfather theme song rendered for a commodore 64 computer game. In third gear low rpm under load, the exhaust sounded nice... Oh! about my E92,no rattles so far. |

On my E46 M3:
Passenger seat rattle. It turned out to be the side bolsters. If I removed all the air out of them so people getting in wouldn't scuff the side bolsters as much, they would rattle. As soon as I added some air, the rattle went away. Fold down rear seat rattles. I added black electrical tape around the part that the seat hooks on to, and I used leather care everywhere where the seats came in contact with each other. That stopped all the rear seat rattles. |

My car has had rattles since purchase. The constant rattles are coming from the driver's side and passenger side door bins. One rattle from the center console, which seems to have stopped by pushing down on it to make the snaps seat properly. More rattles from the back seat area under really bad road conditions. Almost sounds like rattle from the back window shelf and noises from the shoulder seatbelts against the leather. Also seem to have a velcro sounding noise coming from back seat, so it must be the center arm rest. I also placed velco on the rear seat belt buckles so they wouldn't keep hitting the plastic child saftey restraints. That's about all the noises I have. I am letting the dealer look at it today.

[quote=apw2607;3181874]So with quite a few members now having a chance to drive their m3's for several months, hows your car for rattles? The E46 M3 was horrible. This is definitly better .... but still not great. Extremely poor for a car costing this much.
So far ... I've had quite a few. The worst being arond the center speaker/vent above the i-drive screen. It was fixed by removing the vent cover, and the lower section of the vent and adding foam and felt tape. I've got another one coming from the rear area .. could be the rear seats, or the rear shelf. Not sure. Finally, if no-one is sitting in the front passenger seat, that seems to have a annoying rattle as well ! I have only had my M3 for about two weeks; but so far, so good. I had a 135i for about a year and it was quite the 'rattle-box', it was amazing how much more quiet the M3 was on my first real drive. Hopefully it will stay that way! |

When driving over semi-rough pavement, I hear a rattle, I swear its coming from the seatbelt caddy, but I can't isolate it...
Also, sometimes when I take a quick turn it sounds like a ball bearing is rolling in a track...don't know if thats in the seat or what... 2800 miles... |

Living downtown toronto and driving in the pothole capital of the world in an e93 m3 I sometimes feel like im in a 70s pickup full of scrap metal... this thing rattles a fair bit!
then again its a convertible, and im coming from an E90 330i that was pretty rattle free on decent roads... |

I have the rear package tray rattle. I have about 15k miles. Pretty sure I had it in my E36 M3 as well. Any further ideas on a fix? Doubt the dealer will do much...

All three of my E46 M3s were rattle free, the last one even after 5+ years. My E92 M3 has a rattle from the heater outlet for the rear seats...as the car warms up, the rattle disappears. I suppose I ought to dismantle it and douse it with some silcon spray.

Okay - when you say rattles you mean something that you hear when you go over rough roads or constantly at certain speeds? I do have a couple at the back when I drive over questionable quality parts of roads but that is about it. Still trying to figure out what they are! But nothing rattles when I drive on a normal road.

M3 Rattles
I got an E92 M3 and notice there is a rattle when going over about 50-60mph coming from the back. Sounds like it's either the back seats or in the trunk. Anyone know what this could be?
I also have another rattle that sounds like it's coming from the Idrive knob. I have the updated Idrive. If anyone had this problem and knows a fix let me know!

Both my 335I and now my M3 have a noise/rattle that generates from the windshield area somewhere near the driver's pillar area. It is rather annoying and is most apparent in the morning when cold.
Also had a rattle in my 335I that generated from the center console area It had 27K miles when I got rid of it. At 2K miles so far it isn't present in the M3

I have rattles on both the front and the back of my 2009 E90 M3.
Has anyone put pressure on their M3 mirrors? Mine both make a squeaking sound and it makes it sound like real cheap plastic. That is what rattles when I have the suspension on its stiffest settings. There are rattles in the back that I can definitely hear when I go into a driveway at an angle and the body flexes. I am hoping that is the rear seat's leather rubbing. I hope it will go away after conditioning. Last edited by knifegun; 04-19-2009 at 04:57 PM.. |
