Is this the paintshield 720? From the website it looks like its supposed to go on clear, like a clear bra. Is there a different one that gives that frost effect or did you apply the clear one? thx, and it looks great!

^ it's paintshield 5720. Goes on white. Dries clear. Consistency and effect is similar to elmer's all purpose glue.

Hi Guys

Thinking of ordering some of this http://generalchemicalcorp.mybigcomm...ield-5720.html

How much do you think I would need to do the whole car? And isnt it supposed to give a clear finish? As I am only buying this to give a matt result not interested in protecting my paint.

Thanks guys!

Well I did a test area on my car. It went on white, then dried totally clear! No frost effect. I wonder if it has to do with the roller you used. Was it really smooth or course.

I did a test application. Mine came out looking more like a $500 Compton backyard paint job lol!

It looks pretty good matte if you use a really dry roller. The problem is that the coating is very thin and hard to peel off. You'd have to do a lot of coats to get a thick enough coating to peel easily. Putting on a thicker coat causes a lot of tiny bubbles and a very "orange peel" type look. It's also very difficult to get a consistent coating without roller trails.

It's definitely worthwhile to protect your paint. For faking a frozen color, not so much IMO.

Agree....same experience here. Not a total waste because should work well applied thick for track day.

Yeah great for track protection.... not great aesthetically - though the coating isn't meant to be long term anyways.

I'd like to pick up an airless spray and give it a try next time - but it'll require full masking.

Looks great on your car IMO. How long did it take to apply? It would probably be worth it just to protect the paint from debris on track. Dunno how my MR would look frozen though, never seen frozen red.

Edit: And tape up those gaps in the splitter before your first OLOA competition! Even painters tape should work temporarily.

has anyone tried this by spraying it rather than rolling? also some pics other than the OP's would be awesome!

If not - I might have to be the scapegoat and try the spray version - looks like this is a better alternative than plastidip.

Sounds like more prep work than the OP was willing to do for a temporary coverup.

The satin or "frozen" finish really accentuates the angles in the bodywork!
how many coats did you use???
