Reupholster leather seat centers with alcantara

Has anyone done this to our stock M3 seats?

I don't know, but it was something I thought about once. I decided it's too much work for what it's worth. Some of the "racing" seats are like this -- alcantara in the middle and leather on the outside. But I'd rather do this with the stock seats like you mention. Good luck.

Cheers.

I'm getting the non-electronic competition wheel so it seems like I should look into going all out (short of popping for comp seats that is!).

Actually, you can buy the stock Alcantara seat covers and reupholster your seats. You'll probably have to do Euro seat bottom conversion at the same time though.

Doing a Euro seat bottom conversion would be worth it. I didn't know there was a stock Alcantara seat cover. Where can I find out more? Thanks.

Cheers.

ROW option, not available in the US, that's why you need to change the seat bottoms...

Alcantara is nothing more than microfiber cloth. And it wears like hell man. Why would you replace your leather seats for that? Only reason Porsche and others are offering that at the same price as leather is because they're making a killing with that. I'd only use alcantara on the headliner myself. And any other places it makes sense is where you don't touch, like boots. It just doesn't wear well.

I tried looking up part numbers for the seat covers and it appears that BMW had discontinued the Alcantara seat covers for the M3......

I know they existed in the past because I had the bottoms before:

In the US we are not as lucky since we have to deal with the OC3 sensor, it'll require a really skillful upholsterer to open the seats, retrofit the sensor mat and then sew it back up.
