E92 miss fire number 7
So, picked up my new 2008 e92 m3 today, but noticed a bit of a misfire. I had noticed this when test driving but the price was very good ( probably for this reason!) so expecting a little spend. Drove 65 miles home perfectly, but then went out again, mis fire then check engine light. Went to my local indie and read codes and miss fire on 7. I think I recall this may be a coil pack and quite common? Someone put my mind at rest please this will be easy to fix! Indie cleared code and not come back....yet.
Indie ordered a coil pack. Should this sort it? |

Did you try swapping 7 to another one first and seeing if it responds with the misfire in the new location?
If the misfire still comes from 7 then you could need new spark plugs (assuming the 08 has high mileage?). It could also be the injectors, carbon build up in the intake valves or even the vanos solenoid. Regardless, you took responsibility like you said when you bought the car and for the price you got (again assuming a great deal) it will be an inexpensive fix. Good luck! |

Yes, try this first before you let them replace with a probably non-OEM coil

Could be the coil pack or the spark plug itself..swapping coil packs will rule out the coil pack..I would also pull spark plug #7 and examine it for fouling and corrision.

Yes. Happy to sort. Didn't try swapping. They just plugged it in and read code. They said this is good as only showing one cylinder was easier than if multiple as this can be difficult to trace. I guess when it goes in they will check this. It's only got 25k ( uk miles).
I think it's had spark plugs recently. Is seven a common one to go, or am I imagining I've read that? Yes, hopefully, will be cheap to sort |

Yes I have the service book and had the 1500 mile service and a service at 21k. However it's a repaired car, hence price so won't be going back to dealer. 21k service was at a independent, so history not perfect, but rice reflected this.
