Yes, but that doesn't take away from the fact that, as stated above, she must have had some bad mental health issues to attempt this. I don't think the word "bratty" is even appropriate here. Yea, according to the article, she felt entitled to everything and had a "want want want" attitude, but sometimes this is brought on by an illness. I'm NOT saying that it's OK, or she's not totally 100% wrong in doing what she did. It's pretty horrible.

Mental health issues seem to be the defacto "cause" for anyone who's an insufferable piece of shit these days. IMO, there are upstanding people, people with real mental health problems, like schizophrenia or whatever, and pieces of shit who know exactly what they're doing.

see I'm not totally sure she knew exactly what she was doing... if so, she would have realized this would have happened eventually... and all for 20-30k? there's many other ways to get that money that wouldn't have been so detrimental long term (yes I realize she did it for the 'power', but hence my view on the mental instability)

granted I fully feel she deserves what she gets (jail time, etc), but I do believe there's something wrong in her head.

Of course there is, she was greedy to the point where she thought faking a disease was worth it for 30k and some attention. Everyone's greedy, everyone's an attention whore, she took it too far and and caught. She's not a mental health patient, she's a criminal

My point is there's a difference between people who are a little more daring and willing to go too far with things in order to make personal gains and those who are actually affected by mental diseases

Yes, I'd say that you are partly right, but the fact is that I'm not trying to defend her or justify her actions as OK because of an illness.

According to the article, this scam was not condoned by the parents. I have seen young girls do crazy things for attention before. I'd put very good money on the fact that her motivation for doing this was not all about the cash.

I'd wager that it had a lot to do with crying out for attention to fill a void in their life. People do it in different ways. Some people "attempt" to commit suicide. Some people make a point to berate others any chance they get as to feel better about themselves. She chose to act like she had cancer, make people feel sorry for her, and see financial gain in the process. What she did was awful from a moral standpoint, of course. Who wouldn't be furious about a person duping others out of money to fake a very serious illness? (charities at that)

My whole point is that I don't think that this act had very much to do with her being "bratty" or out to get rich. I think it was done for attention.

When people plead insanity... what do you think happens to them? You think they go home and chill out on the couch? Those federal mental health facilities are no picnic either.. Think about the people that are in there, the same people that are in jails. (Only with better lawyers) I received a degree in psychology, and let me tell you, there are people out there with serious problems that look entirely normal. That on the outside act entirely normal. There are a ton of people suffering from disorders (besides schizophrenia or Bi-polar) that commit crimes and their disorder is a very important factor. Depression leads to more murder/suicides than anything else on this planet. Clinical depression isn't being sad or losing your job. It is not having the mental capacity to pull yourself out of that hole on your own. (which a large majority of the population CAN DO!) This chick sounds pretty narcissistic to me. She will be held accountable for her actions, but in the end it won't be enough to give anyone the satisfaction they are looking for.
