got 18"s for winter, what tires to run ?

I am torn on what tire to order...

I read/heard great things about blizzaks from many car circles.

also hearing good things about performance winter tires as they call them

I will b commuting 100 miles round trip on the Garden state parkway, route 78 , and 24.

but generally my development doesnt always get plowed so i also have to consider making it to a main road first.

For the 335d, I fired off an e-mail to Ben asking which he thought was a better tire of the following - Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3, Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60, Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D Blackwall & the Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II Blackwall 210

Haven't heard back, maybe he's on vacation...but based on the Tire Rack ratings & price I'm leaning towards the Dunlop.

Though we don't have any direct experience with winter tires, it seems like most of our customers seem to like the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60s and Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds for winter use.

I have the Dunlop Wintersport 3D and feel more connected to the road than with my crappy Continental summer douchers that came on my ride.

also what size should I run ?

I got a square setup of the Sport Edition A7s in black 18x8 all around ET20 offset

I am going to have the comp package so its the 19s stock. but since they are staggered and I am running square setup what will through my speedo off the least. I am leaning towards 245/40/18 all around ?

For that rim and what you're describing I'd go with 245/40/18's WS70's. Sure you might give up some dry performance, but for those brutal days they'll get you through with no issues. I ran 235/40/18's WS60's last year but will be moving towards WS70's this year 245/40/18. If you ever knew how bad Calgary winters were and me telling you I got through it with no issues, this should definitely be first choice.

its hit or miss in NJ with winters.. but Id rather not get stranded or wreck do to driving on summer tires, plus I feel like since summer tires dont perform well under 40/45 F That I am just waisting the good rubber

245/40/18 it is. I am leaning towards the WS70s.

Plus if we do have a warm/dry winter I can swap back and forth quick I have a compressor/impact wrench in my garage at home plus my boy has a car shop around the block.

anyone ever order tires from tirebuyer.com ?

Well for that then I'd definitely go with the WS70's 245/18/40, like you said you can switch out whenever and if it doesn't bother you then who cares. I'd message Ben@TireRack.com or call him if you want the best pricing. Never heard of tirebuyer.com but I'm sure others will chime in. GL bro

The LM 60's are still around. I think you mean Blizzak WS 70 which isn't a Winter performance tire like the LM60 or Dunlop 3D...it'll give you better snow & ice traction but you give up handling. I'm going with the Dunlop.

lm60 the winter sports aren't the best in deep snow. ideally i would run lm60's during storms and winter sports after.

edit: i meant ws60

What about the new Michelin PA4? This is available in 245/40/18 and should have improved snow traction over the PA3, right? Dunlop ws 3D, LM60, PA4... How are we supposed to choose?

I'm not planning on driving this car through deep snow, so that really isn't an issue for me. I just got a set of lm 60s from tire rack for my stock 19s, 235/35 255/35. They were close outs, very reasonable and I recieved a $50 amex gift card from tire rack in the mail for buying them.

i dont want to drive in deep snow either.

but since I got a set of dedicated winter rims I would like to get a set of dedicated winter tires.

I dont want to spend to much but I am against buying used tires.

i have owned ws60, not sure on the ws70's. what i can tell you about the ws60's was that they were good in the deep, wet, slushy, and all the nasty winter gives you. in the dry and during spirited driving they were very lacking and felt like marshmallows. i can say the opposite of the winter sport 3d's. great in packed snow, light snow, slush, dry, rain, and feel very responsive during spirited driving. i can say that you may have to wait for the plow to do your development in the deep stuff. i had no issues with winter sports but wouldn't mind a spare set of ws60's for the real nasty stuff. ultimately you will have to trade off dry performance for snow/ice performance.

I can always switch back and forth between the comp 19s with summer and winter 18s I plan on driving with the summer 19s until forecasted first inclement weather then to switch over.

i typically switch my wheel set the first week with temps in the 50's or during thanksgiving weekend. if you are going to be driving on your summer tires in sub 50 temps be very very cautious dsc will not save your ass.
