WTB: Modded OEM Exhaust

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
I am looking for a modded OEM exhaust with 2 of the 4 perforated pipes replaced with straight pipes. I prefer an exhaust painted black with high temp paint and the black OEM tips for an E90, but this isn't crucial. I will definitely consider a non-painted E92/3 version without OEM black tips as long as the 2 perforated pipes have been replaced and not simply wrapped.

i highly doubt anyone would cut out perforated pipes and then weld in solid pipes...that's just ridiculous.

anyway, bump for you.

That's actually my understanding of how the mod is accomplished.

they're all wrapped, i don't think there's one that has been a "cut out and weld" job on the stock mufflers.

I had it done, well my uncle did! Opened the muffler, cut out the perferated pipes, replaced those two with two full solid stainless steel pipes, welded it together, restuffed the muffler with sound absorb. material, welded the muffler together and VOILA'!

Soundwise, pretty much zero drone, gets kinda high pitched/aggressive LOUD at around 3k RPM and up. Below 3k rpm its really close to stock if driven softly, otherwise if driven hard from down low its pretty damn loud.

If you're having it done, make sure they use top-notch material to prevent rust or lack of quality, we had 2.5'' 409 stainless steel pipe (never rust) + stainless steel welding wire + stainless steel mix-gas for welding-machine.

Just curious, why do most people seem to use stainless steel instead of other materials like titanium or aluminum?

Because you have to use same metal as the exhaust itself, you cannot weld titanium with stainless steel (OE exhaust material) - so by that, most people use stainless steel to this because its the best (will never rust) unlike other metal such as galvanized steel (seems to rust pretty good so you don't want that in your exhaust). But theres different grades of SS, one of the best grades is 409 SS which I used. Theres also cheaper kinds like 308 SS etc.

It was easier and more cost effective to buy one that had already been modded. I have since gone a different route, so this thread can be closed.
