Is This Right For Police To...
i am 17 with a 335i coupe living in ny state with a junior license. i was driving back from a friend's house around 3:45 am. driving down the street to make the turn into my street i noticed a cop right be hind me following. as soon as i turn into my street the cop puts his spot light on me and lights are on. i pull over and roll down the window.
officer comes over and asks...license and registration please...and i politely ask what did i do wrong? he says im pulling you over for driving with your fog lights and i was like WHAT?!?!? when seriously they were off lol. the conversation went on he went back to his car checked insurance, etc and asked me what is the other license you have in your wallet. i showed him my permit which i also carried with me along with my junior driver's license. he explained to me i wasn't supposed to drive after 9pm. i didn't know this as i was driving out of state and whenever when i had my permit anyhow. so the conversation went on and the cop tells me i am not allowed to carry more then one identification on me and i could get a ticket for it. is this true b/c the cop took my permit and never gave it back. the end result was nothing, no charges, etc as he let me go. my question was the officer right about the more then 1 identity issue and did he have the right to keep my permit? what happens to my permit is it posted in the police station or something so if i get caught again i am in serious stuff or just a one time thing? help please thank you. |

I had a police officer take my junior license as well. This was in Canada (London, Ontario), so it may be different rules. His reason was that as soon as you are issued a new license, your old one is expired and therefore should be destroyed.

How are you supposed to open a bank account at washington mutual? have someone follow you with your second id? what about driving yourself to the airport for an international flight? I've never heard of this law. Is it just for multiple drivers licenses?

thats bull. The law is that for the first year of having your license so lets say your 16. from 16-17 years old or 1 year of having your license you may not transport passengers at all unless someone 25 or older is in the car and you may not drive between 5am-11pm. But after that your free to do what you want.

They don't mean 1 form of ID. They mean 1 form of a license. In PA you are limited to when you can drive with a Cinderella license. You also have to have so many documented hour of driving with an adult. Totally changed from when I got mine.

What is a junior license?
I'm 19 and I still have that same license as SoCalRS4's bro... Don't you get issued another one when your 21? or something? I don't remember.

I doubt that he will do anything with the permit but discard it. If you pissed him off he might remember you next time he sees you driving. Still, if he can see your young mug in the driver's side window he and other police might take notice. It just comes with the territory. Profiling is not necessarily planned, but it is reality.
