Stripping Wheel Paint and Repainting

Curious if any of you have stripped paint off a wheel to prep it for a color change. Have a set of Apex EC-7 track wheels that were previously painted Lamborghini green with 3 stage car paint.

I want to strip the paint off to either the original gunmetal paint underneath (if it's still in good shape) or all the way down to the metal and repaint flat black. Is this something that can be accomplished DIY?

If not what kind of shops would be able to strip it with a media blaster?

If you use aircraft stripper then it will probably get all the paint off. I did this with a set of audi wheels.

Getting off the green paint and just leaving the original finish probably wouldn't work. If the green paint is not the type that has a catalyst then normal paint remover would take it off leaving the original finish since the original finish would be resistant to normal paint stripper, but it doesn't sound like it is that type.

Maybe take it to a shop that can media blast them. Shouldn't be expensive.

Not that expensive. I had all four wheels done for a little less than $600 or $150 per wheel. You can probably find someone to do it for even less...

600 seems like a lot to media blast wheels. Typically a used set of Apex EC7's is only 800-1000 bucks. I may try the paint stripper and see if I can take the wheel down to bare and have a shop repaint flat black. Do you have to use any kind of special high temp paint for wheels?

Just to clarify, $600 was for blasting and repainting all four wheels. I got to keep the ZCP wheels I really love and my choice of color...
