Question 245/35 + 275/35 or 255/35 + 285/30 in 19's?

Hey guys

I've been checking out Bimmerpost/M3Post for about two years now but this is the first time actually creating an account/posting.

This is going to be a rather lengthy post but please bear with me as I really need the advice. I live in South Africa and finding tires is such a pain, especially ones that fit the M3 and my wallet :P

Anyway I've driven just close to 40000km (nearly 25000miles) on the OEM PS2's and the rears have run down to the indicators... so yeah... I reckon I need new tires haha. Yes I'm new here and this is my first post so don't lambast me about not hitting up the button please. I've done my research on here but I just can't find anything that helps.

I'm running a stock setup on the 19" 220 style wheels. I've researched that 255/35 and 275/35 are optimum but after visiting 5 tire places and making numerous calls, no one actually has these sizes that are matching. Even Michelin SA claim that they don't bring the PSS, which is what I've been focusing on after reading the reviews on here, in those sizes or even the stock 245/35 + 265/35.

So right now I'm left with either going back to 245/35 and 265/35 in PS2's which cost about R5500-6000 per tire (about $700) - ridiculous hey?

Or what I'm looking at now is either a PSS setup in 245/35 + 275/35 vs Pirelli P Zero's in 255/35 + 285/30.

Prices are pretty much the same for both these brands. - it's also about R5000/tire.

I've read that 275/30's don't work... but what are your thoughts on the 245/35 + 275/35 setup? - preferably from guys who may have tested this size.

Would the above mentioned be better or the 255/35 + 285/30 setup? I've researched on this with a lot of frustration - there is no other alternative () that I can do unless going back to stock 245 + 265.

Please guys, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

On 220M's I'd personally stick with stock sizes. I tried 255/35-275/35 (PSS) on 220M's, it looked good but the stock sizes felt better to me. 285/30 would be nice on a 10" wide wheel, definitely not the best fit for your 220M rears.

Thanks for your reply man. Yeah I get what you mean but truthfully, I just wanted the 255/275 size for the looks; to fill the arches more. I mean I use the car, don't get me wrong, it's not like I have an M3 just for show but I wouldn't mind sacrificing a slight bit of ride comfort/grip for the better profile. If I tracked the car then it would be a different story - too bad BMW SA won't allow that.

If experiences are that stock sizing would be better then I'll reconsider that again. It's just for the price I thought I might as well upsize (the 265 sizing actually costs more than the 275/285). I may also want to run spacers (say 15/12) in the near future but from the other threads I believe the sizes I mentioned above will pose no problems?

Thanks again

Anyone else willing to comment on what sizes I should take or is Denk's comment still the best? ie. going stock?

I don't know who is telling you that 255/35 and 275/35 are not available but they are. See the link below. You are not going to find a random tire shop that has them in stock in their store. Expensive performance tires typically need to be ordered.

Order them from tire rack and have them sent to a reputable tire shop to be installed. Tire rack is a supporting vender on this forum and they are a great company. I buy all of my tires from them.

EDIT - I just noticed you are from SA. Good luck tracking down the tires; Most of the people on this forum are from the US.

Hey yeah I know that this is the US thread but the SA thread has been dormant for about 2 years. Plus asking tyre shops here is a redundant task because they hardly have enough experience with the specific vehicle to recommend anything not oem. The guy kept asking me whether the sizes would fit the car as he didn't know and if I was sure the car wasn't on run-flats (not this again..)

Thanks anyway Slicer

I am running PSS on 220's in 255/275 and they are great compared to stock. I think handling is better and overall made the car look a lot better.

Thumbs up Already made my decision

Thanks Pillpopper for your input but I've already made my decision. 245/275 PSS and still running in that 800mile mark. I would've easily opted for the 255/275 combo but Michelin don't stock the 255 size here and waiting would take too long. So far I already feel better grip compared to the PS2's, hopefully these will increase even more (just so I know it isn't the placebo effect) once the tyres are worn in - can't wait!

GTS rear is a 285/30/19...no MPSS for this size unfortunately or I would be all over it.
