with new cars in CA I believe you have 4 years till you have to smog it. I usually only have my cars for 3-7 months. However now that I have the ESS supercharger on it, I dont want to get another car . however I will most likely de mod and sell the car in a couple years when the new M3 comes out.

No Regrets just pure Fun!
Agree with Roman, VT-1 on E9X M3 is a good balance. OP: Go for it and Enjoy! You won't look back....

I finally finished the brake in on my VT1 this afternoon and I just arrive from a good test drive and let me tell you, I'm a happy costumer!!
My car is manual, I have nothing else performance wise then Corsa exhaust and VT1(tires are AD08s 255/295) and I can honestly tell you that I'm 100% satisfied with the way the car drives now, the power delivery could not be smoother and the power is exactly what I was hoping for, it is A LOT faster then before! Under 6000rpm you know it's there but it's nothing crazy but from 6500rpm and up the car is just a different animal! All in all, my car retains all of its daily driving qualitys and when I want to go fast, there's plenty of it under the pedal! Also the install was pretty easy, the kit is really well made!! Thanks ESS and IND! Don't know if anyone regret but I sure don't!! |

I have had my VT-1 535 for nearly two years, and I am extremely happy with it!
It adds an amazing amount of additional power, but it still keeps the car very drivable. It genuinely feels to me like this the way the car should have ideally come from the factory. |

I understood that all SCs for a e9x M3 were non-CARB compliant and could not pass smog so why would it matter which one you installed? |

pulley, full exhaust, intake, and if you still want to stay NA, stroker kit from either RD sport, dinan, or VAC!

I would personally go with the intercooled 575 kit. It's nearly their least expensive kit but 575 horsepower is just more than enough for any situation on the street. The 575 kit can spin the wheels in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, so unless you find yourself regulary mashing the pedal in 4th gear (90 mph) you will see no difference.

what's the break in period for the superchargers? I have one on the way and track days every weekend so just trying to work out when to install it.

Maybe not on the 0 to 60 because now the tires are lighting up easily in first gear (seriously the 1st and 2nd gear are SO MUCH MORE VIOLENT)
but I went to the 1/4 mile and did quick pass before leaving because there was a lot too many people so I had to waite at least 1/2h between each run, anyway I manage to do a 12.4 115mph with my manual M3 with just VT1 and that was with a 2.0 60foot(wich is not bad but not so good compare to the 1.9 I usually do) and with a bad shift in 3rd(hit the cut-off of the 2nd) so I should be able to do 12.1 maybe even 12.0 with a better launch and perfect shift, I also expect to trap 116-117mph! I'll post my better results in this thread as soon as I have the chance to go back to the track(maybe tomorrow if the temp is good). Last edited by Alex07M3; 09-08-2012 at 09:42 AM.. |

I'm very interested in getting the VT-535 (due to the fact that I don't want to do too much surgery on the car adding intercoolers, etc... rather just slap the SC, and the manifold, and the flash tune...easier to remove when going to dealer, or if i sell it, etc). I know you've mentioned this in tid bits before here and there, but I'd love to get a single reply with all your thoughts and experiences on this kit in hot and humid weather (I know you've tracked your car in 100+ temps in AZ, but humidity is a killer here). thanks in advance!

Will you lose power under these conditions? sure but how much will vary depending on the conditions and fuel quality. The lowest HP numbers I have seen on our VT1 cars here in 100+ deg weather and humidity is around 440-450 whp. These same cars make about 465-475 whp in ideal conditions so your only consideration is if you are ok with power under worst case scenario. If you are concerned about it and you feel you need more power you can always go the VT2 route and run our air / water cooling system which will help the car make some additional power in these conditions. |
