Yeah unfortunate issue but not buyback worthy. You also stated that your 135i was bought back. Bad luck I guess.

Did you know that the human body has to run at minimum 98% functionality to stay alive? Think about almost any system in your body stopping abruptly. You'd stall, too!

The decision to shut down the engine has got to be made by the cars main computer. Furthermore, it's a computer decision based on a computer program which monitors several inputs, the camshaft sensor being just one. What are those other inputs and why were they eliminated as a cause? I would want to be taken, in a detailed step-by-step, through the process which led to the conclusion that this part, and only this part, failed. I would have to be convinced that the people certifying my car had not only found the problem, but were competent enough to provide a logical, comprehensive and air-tight solution. I think that's part of their job. In the old days, they showed you the part that failed and that was it. Today, with computers involved, that's not good enough, especially in a catastrophic failure like this one. Instead of spending a lot of time with an attorney, I suggest you go back to the fixer and, in conversation, put the onus on him re-instate your confidence in the car. As a bonus, you'll probably learn a lot more about your car. |

I know this is an old tread and has probably already been dealt with but would something like a camshaft sensor issue put you into limp mode and not completely shut down the car? What's limp mode for anyway?! Like the previous post, I'd want a more detailed explanation from my tech.

This happened to me in my 2006 ///M Roadster.. But not while i was going really fast..i was actually just approaching a red light and it just died. Restarted it, and it died like 100yards ahead. I took it in of course, and the service dept told me it was a faulty alternator..replaced, no problems after that- keep us POSTED! and stick with BMW!!!

I don't mean to stir the pot here but there seems to be a few problems with the '11s recently. I've read quite a few threads about various odd issues that have not been posted before with previous MYs.... strange.

I think one possible explanation, that has been pointed out, is that the 2011 production span lasted longer than any other year. Accordingly, with more cars from that year, a greater number will suffer from problems. I think it's fair to say they've all been holding up really well.

I expect there are a variety of single points of failure in any car that can cause you to suddenly and unexpectedly lose power from the engine. Life is uncertain, deal with it.
