I would choose the Competition Package (enhanced EDC) and not EPS.

Actually, that's what I did in my 2012 M3 order.

Get the EPS. I have EDC (I can notice the difference in settings, but leave it in "Normal" most of the time) and not EPS, and I regret not getting EPS every day. The base stereo system is really bad. Coming out of a couple of Acuras with good Bose stereos, I was actually shocked how crappy the base stereo is on a $70K+ BMW.

it's easier to upgrade the suspension than the speakers in the aftermarket. The M3 comes with more speakers and a top of the line system with EPS. Replacing the standard speakers still won't == EPS.

However IMO don't be cheap and get both. What's it going to be... an extra $30/mo if you get EPS on top of EDC?

Dude, trust this dude, hes a doctor!!!

I cant live without premium sound, because the stock sound system is a joke. Most of my pleasure comes from the sound system to be honest.

There is the Ground Control kit that retains the stock EDC. However from what I've read it seems to be a compromise and if you want max handling you need to go with a full kit.

I'm planning to go with the GC kit eventually.

Yes you can, and will sound much better than the EPS for less money.

Im shopping for my first M3 right now and this has me rethinking my options. I thought EDC was a big deal, but im now thinking otherwise. To tell you the truth, i was also not impressed with the $1900 audio system either.

Absulutely. Even if it means saving a few more months... or buying a pristine used car of the same year you want.

But the better advice is this: Whatever options YOU want, BUY THE CAR WITH THOSE OPTIONS... or you'll regret it in short order, get tired of the car quickly, and lose your proverbial a$$ trading it because you don't like/enjoy it anymore after a year or two. And yes, as a frugal buyer, I went thru that already, and ended up costing me A LOT more . BUT I also advise you to never buy above your means, therefore save enough for the car you want, or just buy a slightly used one and save in depreciation if finances are tight. Good luck.
