New to forum and have a ? on the M3 vert.

Hi everyone, this seems like a great place to get a dose of M power. I look forward to sharing info with all of you.

My question goes out to the members who have owned an 01-05 M3 vert and presently own a 08. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger but would like some comps between the two. My wife really misses her 03 and if the 08 is as good or better I'm going down this week and work a deal. Being an 08 hopefully 5k off msrp.
Thanks

5K off MSRP seems like a decent bargaining point, are you ordering or just looking to pick one up off the lot, because that will play into your negotiations too.

some critics have been dinging the weight of the vert, any issues?
I would think that the V8 would compensate for a few hundred extra lbs. The top down experience is priceless and would give up a few tenths for the wind and exhaust note.

If your wife is gonna be driving it, I don't think she'll notice a slight loss in performance (vs. the performance of the coupe) and in terms of performance vs. the E46 vert she has now, the E93 has it by the balls.

Local dealer has 2 08's, silver/dual clutch loaded msrp 82k, and a red 6spd optioned well at 76,600. The red is the one I'm interested in. What's dealer profit on these cars, I heard 8%. If that be the case 5k off would still yield the dealer 1,200 bucks.

I would highly recommend that your wife try it before you buy it. COMPLETELY different car with a very different feel. Smoother / less raw in most ways: Engine, Transmission (if you compare SMG to DCT), ride, etc. She might like it a lot more BUT she might not like it as much because it is less "raw". Best advice is to have her try it just to be sure. Also, be sure to take a look at the trunk space with the trunk down - very, very, very small.

My wife has had the e46 M3 SMG vert and now the new e93M3 DTC vert, the new M3 is 50% better than the old e46.

Get her the DTC model she will love it.

I want to surprise her so I think from your comments she will love it. I drove a 6spd over the weekend and it felt pretty taught for a vert. It was brand new so I didn't molest it, just took it up to 4k where the exhaust growl starts. If I can get 5k off the car I'll do the deal, we'll see.

When the top is down you can hear the growl coming from the driver hood vent pretty clearly. I drove an e46 for 3 years and just got my e93 in july....the new car is everything the old one was just a little better in every way. I had an e46 coupe and my e93 definitely handles flatter and feels more composed over twisty roads despite being a convertible. And if she's upgrading from smg to dct, after liking smg, then you cant not like dct. dct can shift jerky like the old smg or it can be as smooth as a regular bmw auto. In short, if she loved the e46 theres no way she wont love the e93
