Most toys are made in China, and will be until we're all ready to pay $20 for a $2 action figure. Not all the toys from China are going to give you lead poisioning. Add, keep an eye on the kid, don't let them eat their toys.

Stuffed toys with eyes that pop off and choke them, or candy from Mexico? j/k If they are too young for legos, maybe a nice bedtime story book?

Some shops are taking a proactive approach and test their toys with one of those tools that measure the content of lead on certain toys. Some of them can actually advise you on what is safe and what isnt. I would go to a big toy store and see if they can help you out.

Don't buy them toys, tell them it is because the Chinese hate us and are incompetent. Then our children will hate the chinese and be ready for WWIII since its coming for sure.

I saw a TV commercial that said that Playschool toys were not affected by all of the recalls. Not sure if it is true or not- but it might be worth checking out (if those toys are age appropriate)

Dont blame china, blame the manufacture. It's the toy makers that are not taking responsibility for quality control as they should. Not all toys in China are bad.

People should worry about lead in toys. There wasn't a single case of lead poisoning last year in the US from a child licking from a toy that might have contained lead. About 5 years ago, I went to a doctor because I went to a restaurant at a casino that served me food on a old cracked plate with colourful designed. I worried that it might contained lead and I didn't feel too good afterwords. My doc said that you'll have to eat with that plate everyday for years - even that then you'll have a very minor case of lead poisoning.
I think people should worry about eating lead pellets that what people use for fishing weights. They're very dangerous and ducks and swans actually die from it. If there were lead poisoning cases, they weren't from toys, they were from kids eating lead fishing weights. |

Thats why i dont fear china, because if they actually were put to the same standards as the USA their economy would crumble.

Why not name the individual factory that the toy was made? Instead lets just blame the entire country... Go US Propaganda! "Toys From CHINA contain LEAD!!" A More accurate headline might have been "Mattel toys contain LEAD!" After all Mattel should put those good through their own quality control standards before distributing!! I'm sure that BMW uses parts from other companies and makes sure the products they get are up to their own standards. Mattel just wanted to make more margins and manufactured the goods in China and didn't even care to spend the extra few cents to make sure that the goods are up to their standards... or did they?! If those toys were manufactured in the US, you would never see the headline "Toys from AMERICA painted with LEAD!!" You would see "Toys from (Insert Company Name) painted with LEAD!" What about Enron? and the countless other US Corps that have done less than honorable business practices.. "Corrupt Executives in AMERICA!"?? US Media does a great job making you believe what they want you to. It's sad to see so many people fall for their headlines. I would be worried about China! Think of China to what the US is in the roaring 20's. They are developing so quickly it's only a matter of time before they become the new super power. And you can't phathom that or believe it unless you go there and look for yourself. When I was in the states I said the same thing, but after being in China for 3 months, my opinion has totally changed... |

Secondly, sure the companies should be held accountable. But again the government has huge control over the business practices and is held accountable aswell. Also the country has no laws put in place to protect the consumer, so no shit its the countries fault. Again, China may become a super power but nowhere at United States level. First off people forgot how huge our economy is even though it is horrible right now we are still massive. Secondly, many countries including China need us. Also, as i stated before...make china have standards and real laws like every other nation and then you can compare them to us. Until then they are nothing but a communist country with capitalist tendancies.
