To those people that have taken delivery of their M3...what kind of fuel consumption are you getting on average?

At 1000Km's i am showing 14.3L/100kms or approx 19 mpg (UK). Does this improve any as the engines beds in?

I think that is about as good as it gets. No struggle to get mpg in the 20's if you take it easy on the motorway, though.

Reset it after runninig in service, and after about 1000 miles, average is 17mpg (UK).

The press car I drove back in September was averaging 20-21 mpg during the 3-day shoot, and I even saw it as high as 24mpg on one leg. I would expect you will be able to exceed 20mpg once it is run in since both the early press cars I drove had more than 2000 miles on them.

What's the difference between UK & US MPG?

A US gallon is equivalent to 0.833 imperial gallons, so multiply by 0.833.

well I now at 3700 miles and I av 17.1
Mpg and I NEVER seen average go above 18.4!!! I driven on all roads too. I not complaining though but I do start to wonder how the hard the cars were driven at the official launch and wondering if thats why initial journalistic comment was not so positive or maybe bmw have a different mapping at launch time ....

If its the former I might apply to next car journalist vacancy he he.

We drove them 'very' hard at launch, which is why we saw 14mpg at the time. The RHD press car that we used for the M-cars feature in Wales was driven more as an owner would and that wouldn't drop below 20mpg.

At 5500 miles I'm now averaging around 23mpg overall, with a mix of commuting, the odd blast and some longer motorway miles. I stick rigidly to 80 on the motorways (too many speeding tickets in the last couple of years!!) and save the real high speed stuff for the back roads ....

My 06 TT 3.2 manual returns 20.7mpg average so I can live with the kind of figures you guys mention above.

I drove my car very gently the first day. After 71 miles, the consumption had crept up as high as 12.7 mpg! (As shown here).

It started behaving a bit better after I kicked it.

I was getting about 16.5 l/100km in the first 1200km (which was mainly city driving and about 200km on country roads). I reset it about 4 or 5 days ago and in the last 300km (all city driving) it has been about 14.5 l/100km.

Should say, the air-conditioner has had full time employment during the collation of these fuel consumption figures.

My consumption currently is at 15,8L/100km and I've done brake-in service and have in total driven around 2 500km. Before the brake-in service I had around 14.1, but now I'm revving like crazy which makes a whirlpool in the fuel tank.

I aprox get 4 000 km/full tank which is insanely expensive, but it's all worth it. I have to do about 1-3 refills each week and the fuel prices have drastically increased due to political reasons in Sweden after new year.

Between 15mpg and 25mpg depending upon how heavy or light your right foot is (the latter is difficult unless you manage to keep close to speed limits on A roads/motorways).

If you can afford an M3, why care about gas consumption? For US, I wouldn't be surprised if one only gets ave. 15mpg on daily driving. Welcome to the $5/gal price.

If I could avg 20 mpg in this I'd be rapt. @Pretender - some of us have long drives. I do 25k miles / yr, so even though affording an M3 is not an issue, at the margin I'd like to have as much efficiency as possible.

Because in most European countries the price of gas IS significant.

I have an average of 12.4/100 km with mixed driving.
There was a big drop in fuel consumption during the run in period.

With the lighter winter tires I use now, I even managed to get it down to 9.2/100 km, but that was boring and will most likely not happen again.
