Another new lurker... saw my car today!

Hello! I've been a slow lurker for a little while now, taking my time sipping from the m3post firehose. I ordered my IB Sedan in mid-March and I'm set to take delivery next week (was supposed to be this week... )! My wife and I figured that, after a few deployments, there just won't be a better time to buy my dream car while saving $$ on taxes and misc. fees than while stationed in Germany.

Anyways, it's been awhile since I've been enthralled with cars, but the mod bug has definitely crept back into my life. I opted for DCT/ZCW/ZPP/ZTP/PDC with the 18" wheels (before I found out they are silver instead of gunmetal). Good thing I have a backup plan coming off of one of my previous cars! Also have been amassing a few other goodies and more en route...

edit: saw my car in the maintenance bay! Just can't pick it up until next week...apologies for the terrible photos.

Very nice Volks. Those tire selections are a little weak though. Are those the standard 19x9.5 +22 and 19x10.5 +20 sizes?

Do New Lurkers live in New Lurk?

Welcome. The wait for your car is going to be hellish.

19x8.5 +18 and 19x9.5 +14. Tires should be ok... we'll see!

No, you're not a new lurker. You're a former lurker, new member. Congrats and welcome.

Cheers.

You think that's hellish?

I paid a non-refundable 10% deposit (US$25,000) on Apr 7, for build date of end-July. My car should be here end-September (wishful thinking) to mid-October (realistically).

2 months for the OP, 5 to 6 months for me.

An E90 M3 costs US$250,000. The coupe costs US$15,000 more.

We save big on winter tyres though.

Congrats and welcome! I didn't know the wheels came in silver until I saw your post. I wonder if that will filter over to the US market too? I'd much rather have the silver 18's than the charcoal gray.

Yep... silver 18's are the USDM standard now - my E90 is US-spec.

Great. Now I'm going to have to figure out a way to crack all four wheels at once without hurting anything else on the car so I can get them replaced under waranty

That, or find somebody who wants to trade... anybody?

This made me LOL. You do have a sense of humor.

I travel overseas a decent amount of time. I have been many places across the world (20+ countries) . In very simple terms, we are very fortunate in the US. Almost everything we buy is cheaper than in other countries...cars and electronics are definitely cheaper. Lower tax rates and higher competition are probably the biggest reasons why we can enjoy more for less.

You are a very rare breed among your fellow Americans.

You are very fortunate indeed. The sheer size of the US market (and the presence of behemoths like Walmart and Costco) means that you will always get the lowest prices in the world for most manufactured items.

No import duties on most things is a great way to keep prices low.
