I guess its a Euro thing.
The mods look very clean, I'll admit, but I CRINGE when I think of being seen in this thing, let alone the poor e90 that has had serious cosmetic surgery. It's like turning a f-458 into a sedan....to me its just...why? Station wagons/Touring Models look very unappealing to my eyes. Esp blowing 5-10K+ (probably) to turn a sleek vehicle into a frumpy odd looking thing. To each his own though. |

Drool... Now all we get for wagons is a 328 xi, auto only or the X1, auto only. What a sin. The real bitch is that BMW M proposed an M3 wagon with the e46, and the US dealers said no thanks, it won't sell.
Like the above poster said... would happily take an M3 wagon with a stick over a 5000 pound barge "M" X5 (XM5 owners, I have no doubt those are tits to drive around town, but SUVs can't even participate in bmw cca hpdes). For 40 grand less than an X5M too!

It might be cost efficient to do something like that but consider it in the realm of fixing a car with frame damage. No matter what you do to weld it back or replace parts of the chassis, torsional rigidity will suffer, even if only marginally. Nothing would fit quite like it did from the factory--especially in the interior. And even still, there's no M3 touring anyways, so he'd still have to buy the rear body panels and suspension components and install them separately. Think of the labor hours that already went into modifying the exhaust and other transmission components to fit what is a marginally different car. The details matter.
