I can not get the side gills out!!! SOS
Hello,
Before i get attacked, yes ive searched. I tried to do the pull up method and no luck at all. I tried to put a tape and yank it with a thin screwdriver and no luck, im too scared to do it harder as i feel like the paint will get messed up. WTF do i do? i feel like its glued in or something. My friend told me to tape it up put a towel on it and yank it out with a plyer. What to do? |

I had the same problem, took a friend and I almost 2 hrs to remove them.
We used a pry-tool on the top and bottom, both covered with a rag to protect paint. We pushed those in top and bottom to somewhat disconnect the gill, and I was using a flathead @ the edge to pull up. It worked...after a while. Good luck - 2011 fitment seems too good hahaha |

I had trouble at first. The pry-tool idea was a total bust for me (you will break or scratch car eventually).
What worked quite easily for me was to pinch the gill tightly and ROTATE it down (or up), as you pull it out. Can't just pull it straight out.

We got it out today, I got to say, I have removed many of these, for some reason his passenger side seemed to be in there super tight, I was very shocked how hard it was to remove it, the OP wasn't doing anything wrong, this was honestly one of those weird one off cases.

Lol I just had my meathead homie yank them out with the pinch and pull method. He literally got them off in 2 minutes!

If you open the door there is a little hole right from behind where the gill ends (oposite from the M symbol) where you can put a "hookie thingy" through and pry them out...
five seconds work and no chance to mess up the paint or anything... this is how they remove at the factory. |

Pry up from rear end first. Once it's levered out no more than a millimeter or two the rest of it comes off easy with no tools, just don't try to take it completely off from the back end first. I do recall that the passenger side was a bit harder than the driver side.
Cheers.

They are a bit of a PITA to uninstall and the trick is don't be worried to use a bit of force. This youtube, video is a great DIY and so long as you familiarize yourself with it you should have no problems whatsoever.
