Which Exhaust Setup in Louder?

Hey everyone,

I currently have an Akrapovic Evo XPipe and Eisenmann Race rear section.
Looking to switch the Xpipe for a little more noise, without sacrificing in-cabin drone. Was thinking about switching the Akra for a DINAN Midpipe.

For those of you that dont know, the Akra EVO has 100cell hi-flow cats and 2 resonators. The DINAN Midpipe is catless with 4 resonators.

Just curious if anyone has run these 2 setups back to back, or has heard both in person.

In theory, which one of these xpipes would be louder with an Eisenmann Race rear?

Thanks for the help!

Sorry for off topic question but did the Akra xpipe fit/seal well with your muffler ? Had a user say the rkp adapters didn't play nice with the oem band clamp...thanks for your thoughts!

The Dinan will probably be louder -- probably raspy and tinny. Cat converters act like small mufflers/resonators.

I had a full DINAN setup on my previous e92 m3 and I actually kind of like the little bit of rasp. Its not obnoxious at all. And my issue with the Akra is the resonance in the piping since its titanium.

Just wasnt sure if 2 cats + 2 resonators (Akra) would be louder or softer than 0 cats + 4 resonators (DINAN)

You're comparing two completely different setups so it's hard to definitively say which will be louder. The sizing of the resonators and mufflers, the internal construction, the bends, etc. all contribute to the sound.

My advice is always this: go to some local BMW meetups and hear things in-person.

I had a chance to test drive E63 M6 with Kreissieg F1 exhaust in Aichi, and It was embarrassingly loud. Probably one of the loudest exhaust setups in the world.

Thats true.
Problem is, I know all of the local M guys and none have the DINAN/Eisenmann combo.

I think I'll end up buying a DINAN Midpipe and giving it a shot. I can always resell one of them

Pairing the same company's mid-pipe and muffler will typically give you the "best" sound, by which I mean the least resonances, the smoothest tone, and a pleasant sound. That's because they were designed to work together.

When you mix-and-match, you can make things worse.

Just my two cents after years of buying tons of different exhausts for various cars of mine. I always found that I liked the ones where it was the full setup.

Oh absolutely, makes sense.
I really enjoyed my full DINAN setup on my last e92 m3. PERFECT combination for daily driving. But since I don't daily my current M3, I can stand to have a little more noise. And unfortunately, Eisenmann doesnt have an xpipe to go with their rear section.

I'll report back when I switch to DINAN Midpipe/E Race combo

I have this set up, Dinan X-Pipe with E-Race muffler and it rules, I get comments on it all the time. At low RPM it's very bearable and not much drone, but when you get on it, it really opens up. No rasp or tinny sounds. It sounds awesome all the time, I love it.
