BMW Performance center delivery

Has anyone picked up their M3 at the BMW Performance center? Did they let you drive one of their M3's around? What all did they do for you? Was it worth it? Deciding on wether or not to have mine delivered there or not.

Make sure the delivery is not delayed to schedule this. It would have taken an extra 3 weeks to get mine. If you don't mind then go for it but personally I could not wait any more that I had to.

Why was it delayed? I see they are open M-F.

You need to book an appointment and they only offer a limited number of slots each day. Your car could arrive in the states but the only available slot is 2-3 weeks out. Given some uncertainties in the timing of production and shipping you'll want to leave some wiggle room. Car may actually arrive earlier than expected and you'll still have to wait a week or two for your appointment...

That sucks. Figured there would be enough people around there to take care of it all. It is not like everyone goes there to get their cars. It will probably be around mid-december so we will see.

It is well worth 2 or 3 (or whatever) extra weeks to do the PCD! If you have the option to do it, definitely do it.

You're going to have your car for years, you're only going to take delivery of that car one time - make it count.

I did PCD after the ED for my '11 M3 and it was great.

Free hotel, dinner and breakfast on BMW and transportation from the airport and to the Performance Center.

Skid pad exercise was fun. Glad i got to push the 335i to the limits to see how the DSC works.

Braking within the cones and exiting to avoid a 'crash' was informative as I never really go 50MPH and slam on the brakes 100% and steer out of the way of danger.

Never been on a track before and being able to drive their M3's while being taught some techniques was fun. It was also nice knowing your romping on their car and not yours. The only thing I wished they had let us do was pass people and open up the course a bit. But it has made me want to do an M driving school or do that Nurburgring school if they do that again!

Factory tour was cool I suppose. I had been on the factory tour in Munich 2 months prior so it wasn't much different except I got to see a bunch of S65's being made(made in Munich and get shipped to Regensburg).

The X5 off road experience was awesome. I enjoyed it. My wife, not so much. I suppose who ever drove had a great time, the passenger was terrified. It was also the first time I drove an X5, I would consider it when we look for 'trucks' after my wifes G37 goes back.

Then we had lunch. Shrimp and grits was ok. Not the best I've ever had but good. All the drinks, snacks you want are on them. I ended up going back for 3 Redbulls and they didnt mind as I had an 8 hour drive ahead of me.

Hot laps in the M5 were awesome. Also the first time in an E60 M5 and it was awesome! The dude took me around by myself and it was just a great time over all.

See you there. Heck I would be willing to wait 2 months to do a peformance center delivery. I get to drive someone else's M around a race track for free. It's a no brainer for me

I would highly recommend doing it. You'll have a great time. When I went, I even got to drive an M5 instead of an M3. Also, I had a camera mounted the whole time recording (it cost an extra $50 for that option).

You should do PCD. Even if there is additional lead time. The wait is definitely worth it. I did it this past May. Check out my write-up with pics below. Write-up was posted on front-page of bimmerpost for a while too

It depends on your expectations and priorities. I did it primarily to give my wife a chance to drive an M3 without the anxiety of having me beside her. I think she enjoyed it. If you have no track experience, it will be helpful for you. I expect it adds an average of two weeks to the delivery date. The PC schedules your delivery date out far enough to ensure delivery of the car to them by that date, and their capacity is limited of course. I thought the food and hotel accommodations were very good, and the actual delivery was excellent. The PC associate who handled our delivery was very knowledgable of all the buttons, and I detected no misinformation, which would be a rarity at a dealership.

If you live near Spartanburg SC than I say the direct delivery is not a bad idea, but if you buy your M3 from a dealership you should be able to negotiate a deal to get passes to go to the performance center.

That is what I did with mine.

Granted the salesman and manager were guys I knew from high school but I feel that anyone could have received it.
