True. Base MSRP for the Z06 is what, $76K? I think the MSRP will be starting around $95K for the Viper, which is still about $18K cheaper than the ZR1.

Never driven a ZR1. Is the ZR1 that much better than the Z06 to justify $37K difference?

When I buy a car its the overall experience that matters for me. Brand, quality, perception of quality, performance all factor in. However in the end, its the overall package. Before I bought the M I looked into the following cars: Boxster Spyder, Cayman R, Z06 even some luxo barges like the 7 series. In the end I decided on the M because it offered all the right things for the time.

To the OP the Z06 is an amazing machine. I've driven a 650 whp one all the way back from Texas, and its mind bending the things that car can do. Go test drive one and bring your checkbook along.

Before you do take her for a long test drive then decide.

BTW. On my Homepage you will find the Corvette museum photos, I took a trip to Bowling Green Kentucky at the end of May with mu best friend (he ownes two Corvettes). We took the VIP factory tour (highly recommended should you ever go) Just go to my homepage and find the Corvette Photo Album.

My friend loved driving the M3 (when I let him) he always had a big smile on his face he loved the steering wheel paddles he never said the M3 is better then the Corvette.

PS. One thing I was surprized of when I did the factory tour ... the Corvette is almost completely hand build and every car that comes off the assembly line is going to the DYNO for complete testing. The first photos in the Corvette Album show the Customer Delivery Area, the first car you see (Photo 2) was for sale since it was build with the wrong transmission and the customer did not want the car. If you don't know the way to my home page then go here --->CLICK HERE TO GO TO MY PHOTO ALBUM

All I could say about the ZO6 is that it's a fuckin' monster. Better than the M3 in everything except for the interior. I don't really care much about the interior when you can eat M3's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacktime. LOL!

The part where the ZO6 stands out for me is acceleration. Really crazy compared to the M3. Think of the M3 as Dr. Jekyll and the ZO6 as Mr. Hyde. A ZO6 with headers, intake, cam, exhaust, and a tune really turns it into a different animal. It's the same Mr. Hyde alright, but on roids.

Don't trade the M3 for a Z06, buy a used Z06 to go along with the M3. A used C6 Z06 with aftermarket suspension will out perform any new Corvette in the corners, it just won't have the versatility (soft suspension mode) for a daily driver. But honestly, a Corvette shouldn't really be used as a daily driver in most situations

OP said he's waiting for the new Viper. Let the new debate begin...

The new Viper from what I have seen is stunning, in and out. Have fun eating everything on the road alive. Lol. Vipers are just plain badass.

That's my answer to OP's original question.

I forget where I heard it. I think it was at the NY Auto Show, but I'm trying to find the magazine that I read it in. If anything, the base Viper will be $95K but as soon you want to upgrade to the GTS, it'll probably be $105K+

I'll chime back in if I can recover the magazine article

Interesting, most of my close sources(and im in auto industry) tell me that Viper will be around $120k range and GTS right at $137k. I guess we'll have to wait and find out.

It's absolutely plausible, considering this new Viper will be a direct competitor to the Vette ZR1, so I would summise that pricing should be closer to the ZR1 than to the Z06.

I'm in the auto industry too, and you know as much as I do, nothing is final until it's "burning gas". I've had my close sources be wrong in the past a few times lol. I guess as long as we haven't personally talked to Ralph Giles of SRT, we won't know until a few more months.

I'm hoping for a lower MSRP as that could be my next car

ZR1 has a $120k MSRP but they will sell you one for $105k all the day long(im referring to 3ZR). Perhaps, something similar will be going on with the Viper.
