Price on M3 continues to be strong as BMW V8 has no replacement
I just find it funny to see those occasional people who yearn to own an E92 M3 so badly but not being able to afford one, end up on a forum like this and short of buying one spitefully try as hard as they can to spread fabled misinformation about dropping price. Sorry dude if you want to play you have to pay !
There are no bmw replacement V8 to the high revving S65 that is full of character and individuality. As the m4 follows its course and ages it will be just another 3.0 liter turbo as there are tons of around already. But a E92 M3 8400 RPM V8 is exclusive and unique and that commands at higher price. Sorry for that dude who tries so hard to deface the reality but M3 prices aren't going down any more than they have to and watch out as new condition E92 M3 will be more few and far between in 5-10 years, its V8 will still growl and roar above the mass of common turbos and prices will be stable and speculating higher especially on indidivual models. |

Agreed, I bought my M3 at 55k 1.5 years ago and was quoted 44k trade in from Carmax, who will price it up at least 4k to 48k. I think a 7k drop in 1.5 years is holding up value nicely relative to all cars in general and is certainly not dropping in value due to the fart can Mturbo. Unsure why a horrible sounding engine and exhaust that has to pipe fake sound into the cabin would warrant a drop in our values..when we have the real thing a high revving V8!!

Was talking to a guy who runs the local car wash this morning and he was saying it has been very difficult finding a used coupe with DCT which he has trying to find for a few months. I don't know who is saying prices are dropping like a rock, but the vehicles on the market in Northern California are scarce, especially from 2010-onwards.

I won't speculate on the future of the S55 (honestly that part comes across as a tad insecure), but you're right about this being a unique engine of which there seem to be fewer every day (as cars are crashed or bearings are spun). I figure the cars will reach a balance point of high 20s/low 30s for clean examples.

This is the same argument E46 owners made, last of the NA straight sixes, and prices dropped naturally like all cars. Too many V8 ms to be worth anything more than a used car from the year it was sold.
In 5- 10 years, low mileage cars will be in the 20s and high mileage cars in the teens. facts is facts. V8 is great and all, but people want power not cylinders. Starting from scratch I offer you 420 HP and 410 Lbs and 23 mpg or 410 hp 295 lbs and 18 mpg car otherwise the same? 99% will take the first choice.

I was just commenting on another thread about that this. Wholesale prices on these e90/e92s have really been holding strong. I think these cars will depreciate a lot less than other Ms have. The new car is certainly faster with a ton of newer features but its not leaps and bounds better than the e90/92 whereas every new generation prior has been a lot better than the generation before it.

I also saw the other thread that some guy posted about dropping prices for the e9xM's. That certainly isn't what I'm seeing in my area (Southeast) for reasonable mileage no-crash cars. I think we will see a very gradual drop in prices over time similar to the e46M but since there were less e9x M's made it could actually be a slower decline. Then several years down the road when these cars finally break into the 20's price range the pristine low mileage examples will level off and perhaps even climb a little in price. I'm hanging on to mine

While I would love for our cars to hold value, let's face reality. Go look over in the F/S forum...sellers keep reducing the prices and still no bite. Clean cars are listing for mid to high 30's and it doesn't seem like there's any interest. I remember before the f8x came out, high 30's got you a high mileage 08. Now it seems like you can get a mid mileage '10 or '11 for that price.
The car won't suddenly depreciate 50% because a newer model is out but it's definitely started and will most likely follow e46 prices. This isn't a 1M where it's still going for mid 50's all day long. I'm just glad these cars aren't depreciating like the e6x M5/6's.

It really depends with the M3. I think mileage affects the value more than age. As was true with past M cars...it takes awhile for M cars to reach the 100k mile mark. Enthusiast owned, low mileage examples will hold their values. Hell...low mileage pristine E46 M3s can still go for $30k.
I don't think this holds true for M5/6. They just depreciate..fast.
