Friendly chase with Viper at Buttonwillow 13CW

I headed to the track (Butonwillow) recently to dial in my KW Clubsport suspension. After the suspension was all dialed in, I had a good time chasing down a black Viper. As expected, he would pull away a couple car lengths coming out of a corner into the straights but I would catch right back to him on the corners. I felt like a Miata against this HP and Torque monster (my car is stock engine wise).

Hope you enjoy the chase...

You've definitely logged some hours on that track! Great vid and great driving! Looks like he was actually holding you back and costing you corner speed....

I won't disagree with you on that. I didn't know I was going to track the car when I bought it and it is my DD so DCT is perfect But now I'm slowly starting to shop for a dedicated E36 M3 race car and one of the reason is that I want stick shift on track

For now, to spice things up a bit, I'm driving left foot braking exclusively. I never once touched the brake pedal with my right foot on the video above.

Definitely was costing me corner speed but that's alright, he was fun to chase

I had the same experience at Laguna. Guy in the viper refused to give me a point by. He'd pull away in the straights but I'd reel him back in through the corners. Gotta love big ego drivers.

great video.

What video camera setup are you using? I like how you are able to pick up the exhaust/engine sounds without any wind noise.

+1 on this question? Also, what software did you use for the real time speedo and G-meter?

Very nice, looks like you were giving the Viper a run for his money.

Looks like the datalogger froze up @ 4:58?

This is my first set of NT 01 and I have to say they wear quite well, very uniform across the entire width of the tire. This was day 3 for the set and I rotate them after each day (running square setup). The only issue I have with these tires is that I don't think you can get more than 4 days out of a set

I'm using a GoPro Hero2 attached to the front license plate with an external Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone (~$25). The mic wire is routed all the way from the front grille to the trunk area going through the front firewall and underneath the inside door trims. When I go to the track, I simply pull out the mic from the trunk and tape it inside the rear tow hook hole to get a good sound of the exhaust and also protect the mic from the wind.

For "post-production", I use Dashware which allow me to overlay my datalogger data with my GoPro video.

Yes my cheap datalogger (Andrioid phone using Trackmaster app) keeps crashing more and more... now you know why I was talking to you about getting something more serious.

4 days for a set. That sucks. I'm on my first set and was thinking I would get 8 to 10 but have been told you can't overwork them or they will be junk quick. That's why I was curious cuz looked like you were pushing into some turns.

It seems from talking to people at the tracks I go to that 4 days is what you can expect from NT 01... I was still hoping to get 6 days somehow but it's clear that's no going to happen at this point. 8 to 10 days is fantasy land from where I sit. After 3 days, there's no more thread. It looks like a slick now.

As far as overworking them, apparently they're the fastest just before cording.

Let me know if you get more than 4 days out of them, I'm curious on what others are getting.

The NT01s are going to be great for about 4 days. You can probably use them for maybe 5-6 days if lucky, but they will def not be the same, and you'll notice. On a lighter car, story may be different.

I will let you know. Have one day on them. I run in lower ambient temps than you also. I couldn't get them up to 180-200 range last week and I was trying.

OK, that is the trick right there

I will definitely try this the next time I'm at the track. Sadly still a few months away

I am on my 6th set of NT01s. When they become slick, they are about half worn. It is at that point that they start to grip better. I actually kept running a set that had started to cord on the edges and they were still running fine. I have been able to get between 6 to 12 days out of my various sets, depending on the tracks I ran.
