BMW Assist
Apologies if this has been done to death but I tried searching and couldn't find anything off hand.
Set up my BMW Assist/Connected drive by completing the forms online and received a password soon afterwards. Have logged onto the website etc and all the details seem to be correct but I still can't do any of the things from the car that's the website is saying I should be able to do. I asked the dealer about it when I bought the car and he pointed me in the direction of the website which is what I've done. I've read on here the mention of a SIM card within the car, where is this? Easily enough accessible? I tried all the obvious places, Glovebox, Armrest, coin tray etc but couldn't find one. Any help is greatly appreciated since I was looking forward to having this feature since its the Wives car and she's on the road alot and I thought the SOS would have been a key feature. Thanks in advance, Barry

Ah ha, yes. I pulled the boot carpet out the other day to hoover it all and found all those gubbins and wondered what it was all for. Will take a right nosey about next time I get a chance.
What if the SIM is missing? A new one from BMW? If so, at what cost?

Sorry. Can't help you with that one. I've never know anyone not have a sim fitted.

Hi Barry
I had a 2009 E90 M3, that year had the later style HDD Based nav system in it. What functions are missing? Using the iPhone app all I could do was lock/unlock remotely. I used to use the Google maps 'send to car' function all the time....have you tried that to see of it works? Find a location and them choose Send-Car-BMW-then enter your username and password. Next time you start the car an envelope appears to show you have a message. When you read the message it should contain the google map location and allow you to select to call the place if a phone number was present or navigate there. Great before going on a weekend away. Google and send all places of interest and nav to them as and when required? What colour M3 is it, not a white one by any chance? Lol |

Thanks for your message mate, mine is Black I bought it in Aberdeen. When I was shopping for it, all I could find (in my price bracket anyway) was Black and I've come to really like it to be honest. I originally wanted a Silverstone II one but the more photos I see, the less fussed I am on it. Dad's got a white E92 so I really couldn't get one of those, lol
It's a 2008 built but registered in 2009 so it has the older iDrive system with the DVD's based Nav. I've got no functions at all on it at the moment which makes me wonder if it's online at all. I can't do anything for the next couple of weeks since I'm offshore but I'm trying to gather up as much info as possible since I'm not a big internet user when at home. I've read about the Google Maps function etc, sounds the dogs and very handy indeed when going on breaks away. I need to check the boot to see if all's there, namely the SIM card and if it's missing, BMW AUC will be getting a shout. The Nav DVD can sometimes fail also, so I'll be taking that us with them also, maybe get the latest edition for heehaw.

You have to pay for Assist after 3 years, AFAIK. have you tried calling them from the car menu and asking for directions? That's the easiest way.
